    Maurice Kearney has been named the men's basketball head coach at SUNY Cortland, according to Director of Athletics Mike Urtz. Kearney replaces Tom Spanbauer, who retired from the position this past spring after 28 years at the helm.

    Tom Spanbauer has announced his retirement after 28 years as head coach of the SUNY Cortland men's basketball program. He will continue to work at Cortland as the women's tennis head coach – a position he's held since 2006 – and as a physical education instructor. Dickerson) totaled 29 points, 14 rebounds and five assists, and Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) scored four of his career-high tying 16 points in the final 30 seconds, as Cortland defeated visiting Scranton, 87-82, in a closely-contested non-league men's basketball game at Corey Gymnasium. Cortland improved to 10-2 with the victory, while the Royals fell to 9-3. The game featured 12 ties and 13 lead changes, and neither team led by more than six points.

Cortland had its seven-game winning streak snapped and is now 9-2. Juniata improved to 8-4.
