Maurice Kearney has been named the men's basketball head coach at SUNY Cortland, according to Director of Athletics Mike Urtz. Kearney replaces Tom Spanbauer, who retired from the position this past spring after 28 years at the helm.
Tom Spanbauer has announced his retirement after 28 years as head coach of the SUNY Cortland men's basketball program. He will continue to work at Cortland as the women's tennis head coach – a position he's held since 2006 – and as a physical education instructor. A national search will be conducted for the position later this spring.
SUNY Cortland senior forward/guard Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) has been named the 2022-23 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year for the second straight year and freshman forward Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) has been chosen as the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year in a vote of the league’s coaches.
