Cortland Men Control Play Early in 88-68 Win at Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Cortland men's basketball team took control late in the first half and cruised to an 88-68 victory at Potsdam in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons won their fifth straight game and are now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in league play. 
 
Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) led Cortland with 26 points and 13 rebounds, and he handed out a season-high six assists. Kareem Lubin (Monroe/Washingtonville) scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds and led the team with a season-best seven assists. He was 6-for-12 from the field. 
 
Freshman Isaiah Austin (Albany) enjoyed his best game as a Red Dragon, to date. He scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, with all of his points coming in the first half, and he added four assists and three rebounds. Freshman Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by the Sea) posted career highs of eight points and four rebounds. He made 3-of-4 shots, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Freshman Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) made all four of his shots and finished with eight points. 
 
Brandon Seger, Jr. led Potsdam (3-8, 1-4 SUNYAC) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Colton Huestis made four 3-pointers and ended with 16 points, and Ahamadou Sillah was 5-for-8 from the floor and finished with 14 points and four assists. 
 
Cortland shot a season-best 49 percent from the field, including 58 percent (19-for-33) in the first half. The Red Dragons were 10-for-30 from 3-point range. Potsdam finished at 43 percent from the floor overall and 5-for-19 (26 percent) from the arc. 
 
Cortland never trailed. The Red Dragons were up 11-7 eight minutes into the game and 29-19 with just over six minutes remaining before the half. Cortland finished the half on a 12-6 run that featured six points each from Coston and Austin and led 41-25 at the break. The lead grew to 21 in the first two minutes of the second half and never dipped below 19 points from that point. 
 
Cortland travels to Utica University next Saturday, Dec. 17, for a 1 p.m. non-league game.
