Cortland Defeats Pitt Greensburg, 78-66, to Advance to Finals of Juniata Tournament

HUNTINGDON, PA. – Cortland outscored Pitt Greensburg 26-8 in the first eight minutes of the second half and the Red Dragons defeated the Bobcats, 78-66, in the opening round of the Juniata College Doc Greene Tournament.
 
Cortland (9-1) won its seventh straight game and will face either Juniata or Washington (Md.) in the championship game 4 p.m. Friday. Pitt Greensburg (3-7) will play in the third-place game Friday at 2 p.m.
 
Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) led Cortland with 27 points and nine rebounds. He hit 12-of-19 shots from the floor. Kareem Lubin (Monroe/Washingtonville) scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half. He finished 8-of-14 from the field and added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
 
Cam Williams (Rome/Rome Free Academy) made 5-of-9 3-pointers and ended with 15 points, six rebounds and two steals. He tied his career high in rebounds. Isaiah Preston (Penfield) matched his career bests with six assists and five rebounds and also registered five points and two steals. Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by the Sea) also scored five points for the Red Dragons.
 
JoJo France tallied 15 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Pitt Greensburg. Octavius Hardy totaled 10 points and six rebounds, Matthew Marinchak scored 10 points, Reggie Priah netted nine points and Jaylen Williams finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
 
Cortland shot 55 percent in the second half and finished the game at 45 percent from the floor. The Red Dragons made 10-of-29 shots from the arc, including 5-of-11 in the second half. Pitt Greensburg shot 42 percent overall and 32 percent (9-of-28) from 3-point range.
 
Cortland led 11-4 about four minutes into the game, but the Bobcats took a 13-12 lead at the 13:06 mark and eventually led by three, 37-34, at halftime. Cortland opened the second half on a 16-5 streak, capped by a Preston 3-pointer, to go up 50-42 with 13:38 left. Pitt Greensburg got a 3-pointer from Micah Jones to close within five, but Cortland scored the next 10 points, including treys from Lubin and Williams, to take a 60-45 lead with 12:02 remaining.
 
The Bobcats got back to within nine points twice, the last at 75-66 with 3:02 left after a William Butler 3-pointer. Grunder scored the game's final three points on a putback with 1:46 left and a technical free throw with 1:01 on the clock.
