Austin Grunder Becomes Cortland's Career Scoring Leader in 93-81 Win vs. Potsdam

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) scored 24 points and became Cortland's men's basketball career scoring leader as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Potsdam, 93-81, in SUNYAC action at Corey Gymnasium.
 
Grunder increased his three-year scoring total at Cortland to 1,530 points, surpassing the previous school record of 1,525 points set by Jesse Winter from 2009-13. Grunder reached the record with his 20th point of the game, which he scored with 12:23 left in the second half on a putback after missing his first two shots. Grunder finished the game 10-of-21 from the floor, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out four assists and registered his 13th double-double of the season.
 
Grunder was one of four double-figure scorers for Cortland, which snapped a four-game losing streak to improve to 13-6 overall and 8-4 in the SUNYAC. Cam Williams (Rome/Rome Free Academy) scored 16 points and pulled down six rebounds. Danny Linehan (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee) made all four of his 3-point attempts, including two crucial treys in the last five minutes to help stave off a Potsdam comeback, and ended with 14 points. Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) finished with 12 points and six boards.
 
Also for the Red Dragons, Kareem Lubin (Monroe/Washingtonville) scored eight points and led the team with five assists and Isaiah Preston (Penfield) scored seven points, handed out four assists and hauled in a career-best six rebounds.
 
Potsdam (6-11, 4-7 SUNYAC) was led by Ahamadou Sillah with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Colton Huestis made three 3-pointers and scored 16 points, Isaac Oduro, Jr. added 13 points and four steals, and Jeff Williamson tallied 11 points. Jaylin Williamson led the Bears with eight rebounds.
 
Cortland led 14-4 seven minutes into the game and held a double-figure lead the rest of the first half. The Red Dragons were up 47-29 at halftime and by as many as 27 points at 68-41 after a Williams 3-pointer with 14:03 remaining. Potsdam, however, methodically whittled down Cortland's lead and eventually got to within six at 77-71 after a Huestis 4-point play with 4:55 left. Linehan answered with a 3-pointer at the 4:37 mark and, following a Sillah layup, he hit another trey with 4:06 remaining to give Cortland an 83-73 lead. The Red Dragons led by at least eight points the rest of the way.
 
Cortland shot 52 percent from the floor overall as well as from 3-point range (12-of-23). Potsdam shot 48 percent overall, including 57 percent in the second half, and was 7-of-22 (32 percent) from deep.
 
Cortland hosts Plattsburgh in a league game Saturday at 4 p.m.
