No. 16 Hardin-Simmons earned hosting rights for next weekend's ASC tournament with a dramatic win over No. 24 Mary Hardin-Baylor while the top spot in the Empire 8 playoffs will come down to math after Nazareth topped St. John Fisher. Plus, Alma scratched a 23-year itch against Hope in Saturday's NCAA D-III women's basketball action.
Rochester's Katie Titus made her lone season in Division III count, and she's our Region 3 Player of the Year. Rookie of the Year goes to Brielle Reidinger from nearby Nazareth and Melissa Turnover of Skidmore is our Coach of the Year.
ROCHESTER, NY – For the third-straight season, the Nazareth women's hoops teams squared off against East Avenue rival St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 Championship, falling Saturday to the top seed, 78-55. Fisher won in 2021-22, 83-52, while Nazareth won in 2020-21, 67-62.
ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Katie MacLachlan drilled a critical 3-pointer with 1:15 remaining to give Nazareth a 5-point lead and the second-seeded Golden Flyers held on for a 75-71 victory over No. 3 Sage on Friday night in the Empire 8 semifinals, hosted at St. John Fisher. With the win, Nazareth advances to the championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m., taking on the top-seeded St. John Fisher Carindals. The Cardinals defeated Elmira 67-41 in the other semifinal contest.
ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth women's hoops team scored a season-high 99 points, including draining 15 3-pointers to cruise to a 99-41 victory over Keuka College on Tuesday night at Kidera Gymnasium. The 15 triples, on nearly 54 percent (15-for-28) from downtown, was also a season-high. Jadyn Abrams had a season-high five 3-pointers en route to a team-high 21 points.
ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Madilann Johnson scored eight points in a span of just over a minute in the second quarter to cap a 17-1 run to end the half as the Nazareth Women’s Basketball team cruised to a 70-44 win over Medaille in Empire 8 action Saturday at Kidera Gym. Freshman Kiara Anglin started the run with a lay up and a 3-pointer to give Nazareth (16-5 overall, 12-2 Empire 8) a 26-12 lead with 4:17 left in the second quarter.
UTICA, NY – Graduate student Jadyn Abrams moved into third all-time in scoring for the Empire 8 (1,637 points) on Tuesday night, pouring in 22 points to help Nazareth defeat Utica 91-69. It was the Golden Flyers highest scoring output of the season as they went 35-for-77 (45.5 percent) from the field, including draining 11 3-pointers. Brielle Reidinger notched a career-high in points with 24 on 10-for-14 from the floor and assists (7), while also pulling down 10 boards.
ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Jadyn Abrams led the Nazareth Women’s Basketball team with 15 points including 10 in the second half as the Golden Flyers upended Hartwick 56-47 in an Empire 8 game Saturday in Kidera Gym.
The Golden Flyers (11-4 overall, 7-1 E8) struggled in the first quarter and did not score until the 5:31 mark as Hartwick (4-11, 2-7 E8) jumped out to an early lead. Nazareth recovered to knot the game at 10-10 after the first 10 minutes of action.
ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Katie MacLachlan scored a career-high 16 points, as Nazareth blew out Utica, 66-46, in conference play on Tuesday Night at Kidera Gymnasium. The Golden Flyers shot nearly 40 percent from the field (27-for-69) in the winning effort.
HOUGHTON, NY – Senior Chelsea Woodsum hit a pair of 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter to spark a 14-1 run as the Nazareth Women’s Basketball team pulled away from Houghton for a 56-43 win Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 game on the Dix Family Court.
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Graduate student Jadyn Abrams hit a pair of free throws with :25 seconds remaining to give visiting Nazareth a one-point lead and the Golden Flyers held on to defeat Swarthmore 60-58 on Saturday afternoon in the Hochberg Family Tip-off Tournament. Abrams was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.
ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Rachel Benedict scored a career-high 26 points, 20 of which came in the first half, helping Nazareth send Houghton home packing with a 73-60 defeat. With the win, Nazareth caps the weekend with a sweep, moving to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Houghton drops to 8-7 and 4-2, respectively. The Brockport, NY native also had 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
ROCHESTER, NY – Host Nazareth overcame a halftime deficit with a convincing third quarter to earn an 81-65 victory Friday night, the Golden Flyers first conference win of the year. The Golden Flyers benefited from a strong game at the line in which they went 34-for-39 (87.2 percent).
Rochester, NY – The Nazareth women's basketball team put together is best shooting performance of the season Saturday, hitting on nearly 50 percent of its shots (30-for-61), to snap a four-game losing streak with a 73-47 victory over Fredonia. It was the Golden Flyers highest point total of the season as Samantha Peebles (19 points), Lizzie Straub (15 points) and Rachel Benedict (13 points) each scored in double figures.
ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Lindsey Kelly led the way with 30 points (11-of-15) and tied a career-high with 19 rebounds as Nazareth downed Utica 90-76 on senior day in its regular season finale. Kelly, who moved into second place last night on the Nazareth all-time scoring list (1,605 points), now has 14 double-doubles on the season.
ROCHESTER, NY- Nazareth's Lindsey Kelly finished with a career-high 39 points leading the Golden Flyers to a 77-63 victory over Elmira College Saturday at Kidera Gymnasium. Kelly scored 18 points in the first half of the game, she also contributed six rebounds. In the second half, she added 21 points, finishing the game 17-of-26 from the field. The 39 points tops her previous high of 27 set last season.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sam Sorge tallied a game-high 19 points and Kelly Broderick added 14 to lead the Golden Flyers to a 87-42 women's basketball victory over visiting Alfred Friday night at Kidera Gymnasium.
