ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior Sam Sorge, junior Samantha Peebles and freshman Rachel Benedict each scored 22 points for host Nazareth Thursday as the Golden Flyers defeated Wells in a non-conference women's basketball game, 88-67, at the Kidera Gymnasium.

The Golden Flyers led most of the way and improved to 4-3 overall. Wells dropped to 3-4. Nazareth now is idle until Jan. 4 when the Golden Flyers host Hilbert at 6 p.m.

Sorge and Benedict each grabbed nine rebounds and Peebles had seven. Peebles' 22 points was a career high. She shot 4-for-5 from three-point range and 6-for-6 from the foul line and passed for five assists. Overall, Nazareth shot the ball well in the third and fourth quarters, going 19-for-32 (.594) over the final 20 minutes, including 7-for-11 from three-point range.

Wells' Ashida Cooper led all scorers with 30 points. She scored the first basket of the game, then Sorge hit a three-pointer on Nazareth's next possession and the Golden Flyers never trailed thereafter. They led 17-13 after the first 10-minute quarter, then 33-22 at halftime.

Wells closed within nine points, 41-32, early in the third quarter, but two baskets by Benedict and a three-pointer by Peebles enabled Nazareth to increase its lead to 15, 48-33, with 5:49 left in the third. The lead continued to grow in the fourth quarter and got as large as 23 points, 73-50, following a three-pointer by freshman Rose Pedretti.

Nazareth shot 29-for-56 (.518) overall and 20-for-24 (.833) from the free-throw line. The Golden Flyers also enjoyed a 44-32 rebounding advantage.
