Slow Start but Strong Finish for Nazareth Women’s Basketball

ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Jadyn Abrams led the Nazareth Women's Basketball team with 15 points including 10 in the second half as the Golden Flyers upended Hartwick 56-47 in an Empire 8 game Saturday in Kidera Gym.

The Golden Flyers (11-4 overall, 7-1 E8) struggled in the first quarter and did not score until the 5:31 mark as Hartwick (4-11, 2-7 E8) jumped out to an early lead. Nazareth recovered to knot the game at 10-10 after the first 10 minutes of action.

In the second half, the Golden Flyers finally took the lead with a lay up by freshman Brielle Reidinger to take a 19-17 lead and Nazareth led 24-20 at the break.

In the third quarter, Abrams and the Golden Flyers took control of the game. Abrams connected on a short jumper and a 3-pointer midway through the period to give Nazareth a seven-point lead at 33-26. Later in the quarter, freshman Katie MacLachlin drained a 3-pointer to push the lead to 15 points at 45-30 and the Golden Flyers led 48-35 after three quarters.

Abrams finished with her team-leading 15 points with 4-of-9 shooting from the field and 3-for-6 3-pointers. MacLachlin added 10 points as did graduate student Caley Cornwell. Reidinger had seven points while graduate student Kim Davis added six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

The win allowed the Golden Flyers to sweep the weekend Empire 8 series and prepare for the matchup with St. John Fisher Tuesday night at St. John Fisher.
