Women’s Basketball Handles Medaille to Cap Empire 8 Weekend

ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Madilann Johnson scored eight points in a span of just over a minute in the second quarter to cap a 17-1 run to end the half as the Nazareth Women's Basketball team cruised to a 70-44 win over Medaille in Empire 8 action Saturday at Kidera Gym.

Freshman Kiara Anglin started the run with a lay up and a 3-pointer to give Nazareth (16-5 overall, 12-2 Empire 8) a 26-12 lead with 4:17 left in the second quarter.

Graduate student Caley Cornwell knocked down a 3-pointer to extend the run before Johnson hit a 3-pointer, a three point play and ended the half with a jumper t gave the Golden Flyers a 37-13 edge going into the halftime break.

Nazareth outscored Medaille (5-14, 4-10 Empire 8) 20-5 in the quarter.

The Golden Flyers used a 23-14 third quarter scoring advantage to increase the lead and cruised to the win.

Johnson led Nazareth with a career-high 15 points and graduate student Jadyn Abrams added 10. Anglin and fellow freshman Katie MacLachlan each scored nine points while Cornwell finished with eight. Abrams and graduate student Kim Davis each had seven rebounds.

Nazareth continues Empire 8 play Tuesday at home against Keuka in a special PS I Love You game to raise awareness for the importance of mental health and the fight against bullying. Fans are encouraged to wear purple to the game to support the effort.
