Nazareth Powers Past Utica On Senior Day, 90-76

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Lindsey Kelly led the way with 30 points (11-of-15) and tied a career-high with 19 rebounds as Nazareth downed Utica 90-76 on senior day in its regular season finale.  Kelly, who moved into second place last night on the Nazareth all-time scoring list (1,605 points), now has 14 double-doubles on the season.

Nazareth improves to 18-7 overall and 11-5 in conference play to earn the No. 4 seed in next week's Empire 8 Championship.  Nazareth will take on host Stevens, the top seed, on Friday night in the semifinals with the game time to be determined. 

Nazareth and Ithaca each finished 11-5 in conference play and split head to head – the Bombers strength of schedule in region was the deciding factor on the seeding. 

The Golden Flyers came out strong in the first half, shooting 68 percent (19-of-28), including 6-of-11 from downtown.

Nazareth went on an 8-2 run in the first quarter to take a 20-10 advantage.  Veronica Peck and Sam Sorge drained 3-pointers on the run.  Senior Fanny Kilpinen also added a 15-foot jumper for the Golden Flyers.  It was 31-16 after the first quarter.

In a fairly even second quarter, Peck swished a 3-pointer in the waning seconds to give the hosts a 49-31 lead at break.

Nazareth was strong from behind the arc in the second half as well (7-of-15) with Peck and Samantha Peebles each nailing two triples.

The Golden Flyers led by double digits for the entire second half.

Peck finished the game with 13 points (5-of-13), including 5-of-7 from distance.  She also had four assists.

Sorge chipped in 14 points (5-of-9), while Julia Brew registered 13 points.

Fellow seniors Kilpinen and Colby McCartney had five and three points, respectively.
