Chelsea Woodsum Helps Nazareth Pull Away from Houghton

HOUGHTON, NY – Senior Chelsea Woodsum hit a pair of 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter to spark a 14-1 run as the Nazareth Women's Basketball team pulled away from Houghton for a 56-43 win Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 game on the Dix Family Court.

Nazareth (8-4 overall, 4-1 E8) held a 38-32 lead after three quarters but Houghton (9-3, 2-3 E8) scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to trim the lead to a point at 38-27.

Woodsum followed with a 3-pointer before freshman Katie McLachlin added a lay up and Woodsum connected on another 3-pointer to help the Golden Flyers regain control.

Graduate students Jadyn Abrams and Kim Davis hit back-to-back baskets before Houghton hit a free throw to stop the run. Graduate student Caley Cornwell capped the 14-1 run with a with a lay up as Nazareth took a 52-38 lead and cruised to the win.

Freshman Brielle Reidinger had seven points and nine rebounds in the first half and finished with 10 points and a team-leading 12 rebounds. Woodsum led Nazareth with 11 points and McLachlin added 10 for the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth returns home for a 5:30 p.m. game against Utica Tuesday night.
