  • #2 Griffins Season Comes To An End To #3 Cavaliers
    February 22, 2023
    Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (2/22/2023) - #2 Gwynedd Mercy University (15-11) played host to #3 Cabrini University (14-13). Eight lead changes occurred throughout the game, but in the end, the Cavaliers walked away with the 72-68 victory over the Griffins. Senior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave Cabrini University all they could handle in her final collegiate game. Crossley finished 7-16 from the field with 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two blocks, and three steals.

  • Griffins Cap Off Final Home Game and Senior Night With A Win

    Gwynedd Mercy, Pa. - (2/1/2023) Gwynedd Mercy University (14-10, 7-4) hosted their final home game of the regular season against Centenary University (New. Jersey) (9-15, 0-11). It was also Senior Night where seniors Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) Cayla Sharkey (Lansadle, Pa.) Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa) were all honored before the game. The Griffins dominated the first half leading 39-12 and never looked back as they took a decisive 83-52 victory over the Cyclones. Sylvester finished with a game-high 27 points on 9-16 from the field. Sylvester also finished with four rebounds, four assists, and one steal. 
  • Sylvester's Career Performance Helps Sweep Season Series Against The Knights

    Gwynedd Mercy, Pa. - (2/1/2023) The Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins (13-10, 6-4) played host to the Neumann University Knights (12-11, 5-5) and after a back and forth second half the Griffins were narrowly able to escape the Knights with a final score 70-67. Senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) had a career night on January 11th against Marymount University where she finished with 24 points. Today Sylvester had a new career-high with 31 points. She also finished with four rebounds and three steals. 
  • Offensive Outburst Allows The Griffins To Sweep Season Series Against The Pacers

    Scranton, Pa. -  Gwynedd Mercy University (12-10, 5-4) traveled to Marywood University (12-10, 2-8) looking to sweep the Pacers this season after defeating Marywood at home on January 11th with a 74-56 victory. After an action-packed first half, both teams combined for 97 points. The Griffins' defense turned up in the second half allowing the Pacers to only score eight points in the third and 16 in the fourth, which eventually allowed Gwynedd Mercy to earn a 90-71 victory. Junior guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) finished the night 8-19 from the floor (4-5 from three) with a team-high 24 points, eight rebounds, five assists,  and a team-high five steals.
  • Late Push Falls Short of Saints, Griffins Celebrate Coach Mondillo's 500th Win

    Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/1/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (11-10, 4-4) used a 25-15 fourth quarter advantage to close the gap in an eventual 64-59 loss to Atlantic East Conference (AEC) leader Marymount University (17-4, 7-1). The Saints overcame the Griffins' early 4-0 (7:42) lead and kept a short distance through most of the first quarter, 17-11 (0:03). They used a superior shooting performance - 44.8 (26-of-58) - .293 (17-of-58) - and a 55-24 rebounding advantage to expand their lead to as many as 18 points, 47-29 (1:51 3QTR), before a late three-point basket from senior guard Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa.) (64-54, 0:17 4QTR) and an even later five points from senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) trimmed the Marymount University margin of victory to five points. Following the contest, Gwynedd Mercy University University President Deanne H. D'Emillio presented Head Coach Keith Mondillo with a commemorative plaque and ball in recognition of his 500th career win.
  • Griffins Seal Win In Overtime, Coach Mondillo Earns 500th Win

    Immaculata Pa. - Back on January 4th, the Griffins lost a tough one at home to the Mighty Macs 74-49. Gwynedd Mercy University (10-10, 4-5) traveled to Immaculata University (9-9, 4-2) looking to split the season head-to-head matchup. With the score being tied up 80-80 with 35 seconds left in overtime, senior forward Cayla Sharkey (Landsale Pa.) put the Griffins ahead with a three-pointer which eventually would allow the Griffins to squeak past the Mighty Macs 84-83. Coach Keith Mondillo with the win also earned his 500th career win with Gwynedd Mercy University. Senior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) continued her strong play as the season winds down as she finished 9-25 from the field with 26 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, a block, and three steals.

    Hackettstown, N.J. – Gwynedd Mercy University (10-9, 3-3) traveled to Centenary University (New Jersey) (9-10, 0-6) looking to get back to 500 in the Atlantic East Conference (AEC). After taking a commanding 47-20 lead going into the half, the Griffins were able to keep up the offensive pressure against the Cyclones in the second half leading to an 80-50 victory. Senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) finished the game with a game-high 23 points on 5-18 shooting. Sylvester also recorded six rebounds, and two assists.
  • Crossley Surpasses 1,000 Career Points, But The Griffins Fall To The Cavaliers

    Gwynedd Valley Pa. -  Gwynedd Mercy University (9-9, 2-3) looked to make it three straight wins in the Atlantic Eastern Conference (AEC) as they welcomed Cabrini University (8-10, 4-1), however early struggles defensively for the Griffins would lead to their 86-75 defeat. Just 36 seconds into the third quarter senior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) took a three-pointer from straight away cutting the Caviler's lead down 47-32. With this three-pointer, Crossley became just the 13th Griffin in school history to reach 1,000 career points. She finished the game with 25 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks, and a steal. 
  • Griffins Get Second Conference Win Defeating Knights
    January 18, 2023
    Aston, Pa. - Gwynedd Mercy University (9-8,2-2) looked to continue climbing the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) standings as they traveled to Neumann University (9-8,2-2). Griffins in the first quarter found themselves down 5-2 at the 8:42 mark in the first quarter, however, after a layup by senior guard Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa.) at the 7:22 mark the Griffins would take a 6-5 lead and never look back. Senior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) put on a show as she finished 9-21 from the field with a game-high in points (22), rebounds (16), and steals (3) Crossley also finished with two assists and a block.
  • Sylvester's Career Night Helps Propel Griffins To First Conference Win Of The Year

    Gwynedd Valley Pa. -  Gwynedd Mercy University (8-8, 1-2) looked to get back into the win column as they played host to Marywood University (11-4, 1-2) in the "Play for Joey" game. The Griffins found their offensive groove all game which was led by senior guard Elise Slyvester (Pottstown, Pa.) who finished 8-19 from the field with a career-high 24 points. Sylvester also finished with eight rebounds and four assists. Gwynedd Mercy scored the first two points with a layup by junior guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) and the Griffins never looked back as they walked away with a 74-56 victory. 
  • Griffins Fall In Overtime To Saints

    Arlington Va. -  Gwynedd Mercy University (7-8, 0-2) traveled down to Marymount University (11-2, 2-0) where a low-scoring first half by both teams lead to a second-half shootout, but 40 minutes was not enough to decide the game. In the overtime period, the Griffins were outscored 17-8 and fell short to the Saints 65-56. Senior guard Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa.) went 5-13 from the field and had a team-high 14 points with all her points coming in the second half. 
  • Griffins Defeated In Conference Opener Against Mighty Macs

    Gwynedd Valley, Pa.- Gwynedd Mercy University (7-7, 0-1) welcomed Immaculata University (6-6, 1-0) which not only was the first game to the start of their 2023 campaign but also the start of Atlantic East Conference play (AEC). The Griffins struggled offensively, scoring only ten points in the first two quarters, 13 in the third, and 16 in the fourth, amounting to a 74-49 loss. Senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) finished 2-11 from the field with ten points, two rebounds, and three assists. 
  • Mountaineers Down Griffins In Final Game of Jamie Lynn Roberts-Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Tournament

    Washington, D.C. - (12/20/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-5) took part in their final game in the Jamie Lynn Roberts-Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Tournament as they took on Berea College (Ky.) as the Griffins came up just short to the Mountaineers 69-62. Junior guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersvillem N.J.) did her best to keep Gwynedd Mercy in the game as she went 6-21 from the field with a season-high 25 points and nine rebounds. Eggers also finished with two assists and three steals. Eggers had a fantastic showing at the Jamie Lynn Roberts-Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team that was announced at the end of the tournament.

    Washington, D.C. - (12/19/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-4) opened their stay at Catholic University's Jamie Lynn Roberts-Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Tournament with today's 2:00 p.m. tip-off against the hosting Cardinals (9-2). After a competitive first quarter; 18-15 (0:14), the Griffins struggled to keep up with home team as a nine-point second quarter and a five-point third quarter mired Gwynedd Mercy University in a 61-29 (0:11) rut heading to the fourth quarter of an eventual 76-40 (1:19) final. Junior guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) led the Griffins with 13 points and a pair of rebounds.
  • Griffins Drop Final Home Game In 2022

    Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (12/17/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-3) welcomed Rowan University (7-4) to the Griffin Complex in what was the Griffins final home game of 2022. Going into the fourth quarter Gwynedd Mercy was leading Rowan University 57-53, but a 26-15 fourth quarter favoring the Profs would allow them to walk away with a 79-72 victory over the Griffins. Junior Guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville N.J.) led the Griffins with 21 points on 7-19 from the floor. Eggers also finished with five rebounds. an assist, and a block. 
  • Four-Game Win Streak Comes To A Close at Albright College

    Reading Pa. -  Gwynedd Mercy University (6-2) traveled to Albright College (6-3) where a back-and-forth third quarter would eventually lead the Lions to hit five three-pointers in the fourth quarter and outscore the Griffins 23-10 leading to a 72-59 loss. Senior Forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished the game 10-23 from the field and led the team with 23 points. Crossley also recorded seven rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal. 
  • Eggers Buzzer Beater Send Salisbury Home Empty Handed, Crossley Records Third Double-Double

    Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (12/5/2022) - Salisbury University (3-8) thought they had tonight's contest won, but a long inbound and a quick pass from senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) to junior guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) reversed fortunes in tonight's 80-79 victory. The last-second bucket left Eggers as the leading scorer (25 points) for Gywnedd Mercy University (6-1), but senior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) captained the Griffin effort with 23 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
  • Balanced Scoring and Free Throws Find Griffins Victory Versus Colonels

    Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - (11/17/2022) - Led by the free throw efforts of junior guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) (10-of-10, 1.000) and senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) (8-of-12, .750), a balanced Gwynedd Mercy University (4-1) effort earned the Griffins a 71-53 victory at Wilkes University (1-1). Gwynedd Mercy University made their presence felt in the third quarter, quickly improving a 30-26 halftime advantage to a 43-28 (7:17, 3QTR) perch with the inside-outside combination of senior forward Cayla Sharkey (Lansdale, Pa.) and senior guard Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa.). From there, free throws carried the Griffins through the remainder of the 18-point win.
  • Big Third Quarter Leads Griffins To Battle of 309 Victory

    Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (11/15/2022) Gwynedd Mercy University (3-1) played host to Arcadia University (3-1) in the annual Battle of 309. The Griffins were up by 12 at halftime, but a 27 to 10 3rd quarter allowed Gwynedd Mercy to leave the Battle of 309 victorious with a final score of 76-47. Senior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with a team-high 15 points on 6-10 (.600) shooting; she was 1-of-2 (.500) from three-point range and hit two of her four free throws (2-of-4, .500). Crossley also recorded six rebounds and an assist in the Griffins win.

  • Griffins Defeat Monarchs In Season Opener

    Wilkes-Barre, Pa - (11/8/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University opened its 2022 season by traveling to King's College (Pa.) where a 23-2 second-quarter advantage would allow the Griffins to start their season off on a high note with a 75-50 win. Both teams were close after the first quarter as the score was 18-13 in favor of Gwynedd Mercy, however as the Griffins started to outpace the Monarchs in the rebounding department, Gwynedd Mercy would go into the half up 41-15. The Griffins would only be outscored in the fourth quarter (17-21), but with the 26-point lead going into the half, King's College (Pa.) did not have enough time to start the comeback. In a team-high 32 minutes, senior team captain forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished 10-20 from the field with a team-high 25 points, eight steals, and ten rebounds (five offensive and five defensive). She also added three assists and a block.
  • #4 Griffins Championship Bound After Upset of #1 Saints

    Arlington, Va. - (2/23/2022) - #4 Gwynedd Mercy University (15-12) is Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Championship bound after upsetting #1 Marymount University (16-8) by a 70-59 measure in tonight's semifinal. Headlined by a 21-point, 16-rebound double-double from junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.), the Griffins scored the first 10 points of the contest (10-0, 6:35) and limited the Saints to only 10 points in the period, 18-10 (0:13). After which Gwynedd Mercy University advanced their 18-10 position to a 37-29 (0:36) halftime lead and a 51-37 (0:00) third-quarter perch before allowing Marymount University to trim the difference to 11 points by the final buzzer.
  • Crossley Double-Double Drives Griffins to AEC Semifinals

    Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/21/2022) - Junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.) fouled out of tonight's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Quarterfinal with 2:19 remaining in the contest, but her 26-point, 17-rebound double-double dominated the box score and gave #4 Gwynedd Mercy University (14-12) just enough of a cushion to capture a 74-73 (1:27) victory over #5 Neumann University (8-17). Crossley was 6-of-14 (.429) from the floor and hit half of her shots from three-point range (3-of-7, .429), but she made her presence felt at the free throw line with an 11-of-12 (.917) performance. She also added four assists to her 13th double-double of the season. Junior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) (12 points) and sophomore guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) (10) joined Crossley in double figures; Sylvester added three rebounds, four assists, and two steals to her double digits, while Eggers complimented hers with six rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Junior forward Cayla Sharkey (Lansdale, Pa.) contributed nine points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and three blocks to the Griffin victory.
  • GMercyU Closes Regular Season with AEC Victory over Pacers

    Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/16/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (13-12, 7-5) won a topsy-turvy first half that saw them trail 16-6 (0:02) at the end of the first quarter, but lead Marywood University (9-12, 4-7) by 24-23 (0:52) spread at halftime. After intermission, the Griffins emerged from the early back-and-forth for a nine-point, 37-28, lead with 4:28 to play in the third quarter. Unfortunately, the Pacers rallied for a 42-41 (0:00) edge heading to the final frame. There, the point play of junior Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) led the Gwynedd Mercy University to victory as she tied the contest with an and-one, 50-50 (4:24), and gave the Griffins a 54-50 (2:06) lead heading to final two minutes with a pair of clutch buckets. In the end, Gwynedd Mercy University only improved the position by the final buzzer; 60-54 (0:26).
  • Crossley and Sylvester Sizzle, but Griffins Lose AEC Score to Saints

    Arlington, Va. - (2/12/2022) - Today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) action brought Gwynedd Mercy University (12-12, 6-5) to league-leader Marymount University (13-7, 8-1), where the Saints needed an extra frame to retire the Griffins. Junior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) may have found junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.) may have scored the last basket of regulation (82-82, 0:10), but it was Marymount University who needed to catch up as Gwynedd Mercy University owned a 26-16 (0:25) lead at the end of the first quarter, rallied for a 46-41 (0:00) halftime edge, controlled a 13-point, 64-51, advantage with 2:16 remaining in the third quarter, and a 15-point, 73-58 (7:58), with eight minutes to play in the fourth quarter. The Saints made their move soon after, outscoring the Griffins 24-9 in remainder of regulation, 82-82 (0:10), and 10-5 in overtime; 92-87 (0:04).
  • Second Half Separates Mighty Macs from Griffins in AEC Affair

    Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/9/2022) - The Atlantic East Conference (AEC) rivals exchanged quarters in the first half with Immaculata University (12-7, 5-3) taking the opening frame thanks to a fast start (8-0, 6:13) and a last-second three pointer, 17-14 (0:05), before Gwynedd Mercy University (12-11, 6-4) eventually responded from a 30-17 (4:51) deficit with a 18-2 run to intermission. Unfortunately, the Griffins could not carry their favor to the second half, where the Mighty Macs gradually pushed their lead back to double digits, 51-39 (4:08), clung to a 56-51 (0:00) third-quarter edge, and distanced themselves from Gwynedd Mercy University in the final frame of an 82-66 (0:17) final.
  • Griffins Defeat Cyclones for Third Straight AEC Victory

    Hackettstown, N.J. - (2/7/2022) - A three-headed monster of junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.), sophomore guards Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) and Ava Casale (Sewell, N.J.) combined for 64 points as Gwynedd Mercy University (12-10, 6-3) collected their third straight Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory with this evening's 80-61 win over Centenary University (NJ) (7-10, 0-8). Crossley continued her double-double streak, pairing her 21 points with a season-high 20 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Eggers scored a game-high 25 points while additionally providing the Griffins with five rebounds, an assist, and two steals. And Casale offered 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals in her first start for Gwynedd Mercy University. Eggers (6-of-10, .600) and Casale (4-of-10, .400) combined to go 10-of-20 (.500) from three-point range while contributing to a defensive effort that forced 20 Cyclone turnovers.
  • Crossley's Fourth Consecutive Double-Double Leads Griffins to AEC Victory Over Cavaliers

    Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/5/2022) - Junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.) recorded her fourth straight double-double - her 11th of the season - to lead Gwynedd Mercy University (11-10, 5-3) to today's 67-53 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory over Cabrini University (10-10, 5-3). Crossley scored nine of her 18 points with a perfect afternoon at the free throw line ((9-of-9, 1.000) and she matched her season-high 18 rebounds while also contributing four assists, a block, and two steals to the Griffins' win. Junior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) and sophomore guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) joined Crossley in double figures with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Sylvester additionally provided three rebounds, six assists, and three steals, while Eggers supported her dozen points with four rebounds, an assist, and three steals.

    Aston, Pa. - (2/2/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (10-10, 4-3) used a 34-point fourth quarter to defeat Neumann University (8-12, 3-4) in this evening's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) affair. The Griffins made five of their six fourth-quarter field goals (6-of-12, .500) from three-point range (5-of-8, .625) and scored 17 free throws (17-of-22, .773) over the final 10 minutes of the contest, separating from the Knights with a late 20-5 run tirggered by the second of two free shots for junior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) (59-56, 5:04) and a fastbreak put-back from junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.) (61-56, 4:19). Crossley scored her 10th double-double of the season with 16 points and 18 rebounds, but sophomore guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) led all scorers with 25 points. Crossley added three assists, two blocks, and five steals to her double-double, while Eggers complimented her double figures with eight rebounds, a block, and a steal. Junior guard Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa.) contributed 20 points, two rebounds, and an assist, while Sylvester supported with three points, two rebounds, nine assists, and four steals.
