Griffins Defeat Cyclones for Third Straight AEC Victory

Hackettstown, N.J. - (2/7/2022) - A three-headed monster of junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.), sophomore guards Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) and Ava Casale (Sewell, N.J.) combined for 64 points as Gwynedd Mercy University (12-10, 6-3) collected their third straight Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory with this evening's 80-61 win over Centenary University (NJ) (7-10, 0-8). Crossley continued her double-double streak, pairing her 21 points with a season-high 20 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Eggers scored a game-high 25 points while additionally providing the Griffins with five rebounds, an assist, and two steals. And Casale offered 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals in her first start for Gwynedd Mercy University. Eggers (6-of-10, .600) and Casale (4-of-10, .400) combined to go 10-of-20 (.500) from three-point range while contributing to a defensive effort that forced 20 Cyclone turnovers.

Gwynedd Mercy University saw their first extended lead late in the first quarter as an Eggers three scored them a 10-9 advantage with 2:20 remaining. In that time, an Eggers free throw (1:18) and five consecutive points from Crossley (1:03, 0:41) pushed the Griffin favor to four points,16-12 (0:19), for the quarter break. Soon after, Centenary University erased the difference and took a one-point, 20-19 (6:31), lead before Casale bookend a set of three-point baskets (5:10, 4:39, 4:10) that reestablished Gwynedd Mercy University's lead at eight points, 30-22 (4:10). Later, she scored the last six Griffin points of the frame to secure a 39-29 (0:38) halftime lead. In the second half, Gwynedd Mercy University's lead briefly dipped below double digits late in the third quarter, 54-47 (1:14), but gradually grew throughout the fourth in an eventual 19-point, 80-61 (0:30), conclusion.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex on Wednesday, February 9, when they host Immaculata University for a 6:00 p.m. AEC tip-off.
