Washington, D.C. - (12/19/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-4) opened their stay at Catholic University's Jamie Lynn Roberts-Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Tournament with today's 2:00 p.m. tip-off against the hosting Cardinals (9-2). After a competitive first quarter; 18-15 (0:14), the Griffins struggled to keep up with home team as a nine-point second quarter and a five-point third quarter mired Gwynedd Mercy University in a 61-29 (0:11) rut heading to the fourth quarter of an eventual 76-40 (1:19) final. Junior guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) led the Griffins with 13 points and a pair of rebounds.

Griffin Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University hit five of their six first-quarter free throws (5-of-6, .833) and held a 12-10 advantage after senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) sunk a pair of free throws with 3:08 remaining in the opening frame.
• The Griffins remained just two points down, 22-20, with 7:23 remaining in the second quarter.
• Gwynedd Mercy University finished the contest 15-of-20 (.750) from the free throw line.
• Sylvester finished with five points, fellow senior Cayla Sharkey (Lansdale, Pa.) offered eight points, five rebounds, and a block, and junior forward Natalie O'Neill (Philadelphia, Pa.) collected 11 rebounds for her fifth double-digit performance of the season.
