Griffins Seal Win In Overtime, Coach Mondillo Earns 500th Win

Immaculata Pa. - Back on January 4th, the Griffins lost a tough one at home to the Mighty Macs 74-49. Gwynedd Mercy University (10-10, 4-5) traveled to Immaculata University (9-9, 4-2) looking to split the season head-to-head matchup. With the score being tied up 80-80 with 35 seconds left in overtime, senior forward Cayla Sharkey (Landsale Pa.) put the Griffins ahead with a three-pointer which eventually would allow the Griffins to squeak past the Mighty Macs 84-83. Coach Keith Mondillo with the win also earned his 500th career win with Gwynedd Mercy University. Senior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) continued her strong play as the season winds down as she finished 9-25 from the field with 26 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, a block, and three steals.

Griffins Highlights:

  • Gwynedd Mercy forced 27 turnovers which lead to 29 points off of turnovers.
  • The Griffins used their speed to their advantage as they lead fast break points 21-8.
  • Sharkey finished with ten points, nine rebounds, a steal, and a game-high four blocks. 
  • Senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) contributed offensively not only scoring 20 points, but also distributing the rock as well with a game-high six assists. 

Gwynedd Mercy University welcomes the first-placed Marymount University Saints to the Griffin Complex for their next game on Wednesday, Febuary 1, for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
