Bronx, NY – The Lightning showed no ill effects of a two week lay-off as Lehman (9-2) defeated Western Connecticut (6-4) 80-74 in the opening round of the 9th Annual Coaches vs Cancer Tournament. The Lightning overcame a 36-31 halftime deficit by scoring the first 10 points of the second half and five minutes into the half the Lightning were up nine, 49-40. The Lightning have now won their last eight.
Bronx, NY - Lehman (7-2:3-1) held on to defeat nationally ranked Brooklyn (9-2:3-1) 80-77 in a key early season CUNYAC match-up. The victory gives the Lightning sole possession of first place in the CUNYAC.
A strong move to the basket by Olando Minott snapped a 77 all contest to put Lehman on top 79 -77 with seven seconds to play. The Lightning were then able to force a turnover and get the ball back two seconds later. John Brens was immediately fouled and hit one of two to give the Bulldogs hope but the outlet pass after Bren’s missed second free throw went awry and the Lightning held on to win 80-77.
Olando Minott netted a team high 19 points to lead the Lighting to a 90-67 victory over Maritime College (0-5). With the win, there third in a row, Lehman improves to 4-2.
Olando Minott tallied a game high 24 points to lead the Lightning past Penn State Schuylkill 99-58 in the consolation game of the Dutch Burch Tip-off Tournament in Williamsport, PA. It was the first victory of the season for Lehman (1-1). PSU Schuylkill falls to 1-2.
In the opening round of the Dutch Burch Tip-off Tournament hosted by Lycoming College the Lightning were pitted against Misericordia College. In the season opener for both schools the Lightning fell 63-60 to the Cougars.
