Lightning win streak snapped

More news about: Lehman

Bronx, NY - The Lightnings' eight game win streak was snapped tonight in the final of the 2015 Coaches vs Cancer Tournament.  Lehman (9-3) fell 82-73 to Buffalo State (7-2).

Chaun Miller paced the Lightning with 22 points.  Olando Minott and Andrew Utate added 12 and 11 points respectively.  Niv Solomon was credited with 15 rebounds.  It is the fourth time this season he recorded double digits in rebounds.

The first half was a back and forth affair as neither team had a lead greater than four points.   When the first half ended it was the Bengals that took a 38-36 lead into the locker room.

After the Lighting tied the contest at 40 in the opening minutes of the second half the Bengals were able to go on a 9-2 run to take a seven point lead.  The Bengals extended their lead to 10 after Jordan Chateau drain one of two free throws with 12:24 to play.  Lehman was able to cut the lead to five, 56-51 after a Miller three-pointer.  But it was Kevin Marmolejos who scored the next eight points for Buff State.  Another Marmolejos bucket at the 3:57 mark gave the Bengals their largest lead of the night, 12 points (70-58).  Lehman began to slowly chip away and was able to cut the deficit to three at 74-71 after Minott drained a pair of free throws.  That would be as close as the Lightning would get.  The Bengals secured the victory by hitting six of eight free throws in the closing seconds.

The Bengals were led by Marmolejos.  The senior came off the bench to score 23 points including eight in a row in the second half to secure the win.  For his efforts he was named to the All-Tournament team along with team mate Mike Henry who was named tournament MVP.    Joining the duo on the All-Tournament squad was Lehman stand out Oland Minott, Phil Starks from Western Connecticut and Chinwe Wosu from NJCU.

The Lightning return to action Sunday afternoon as they travel to Manhattan to face CUNYAC rival CCNY.  Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM in Nat Holman Gymnasium on the CCNY campus.
