Lightning edged by Dolphins in first conference loss

STATEN ISLAND --- The Lehman College men's basketball team lost 82-76 at the College of Staten Island on Saturday at the Sports & Recreation Center in Staten Island.

For the Lightning of Lehman (10-4, 5-1 CUNYAC), it was their first conference loss of the season. The Dolphins of Staten Island (10-4, 4-2 CUNYAC) were tied for third place in the league standings as of press time.  

Senior Olando Minott led Lehman with 23 points, shooting 55 percent from the floor while collecting five rebounds. Senior Chaun Miller finished with 18 points and six rebounds, while junior Edwin Pascual had a career-high 12 points. The Lightning were limited with foul trouble, as two players fouled out and two others finished with four fouls.

Senior Will Fonseca led the Dolphins with 23 points and nine rebounds, while junior Khaleeq Baum finish with 16 and seven boards. Staten Island held a 45-30 advantage in rebounding.

It was a hotly contested game, with neither team leading by more than six. Up by two at the half, Lehman took a 65-61 lead with 7:04 remaining in the game after a layup from Minott. But a 9-2 run from CSI put the hosts up for good.

At press time, the Lightning were still ranked first in the CUNYAC standings.

Lehman will be back on the court on Wednesday when they travel to Baruch College to face the Bearcats in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
