  • First round: Late surges lift winners

    Baldwin Wallace, Messiah and Mass-Dartmouth used late bursts to advance through the first round, while three ranked teams were sent packing in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament.

    No. 15 Chicago handled No. 1 New York University and handed the Violets their first loss, and No. 6 Scranton blitzed Elizabethtown in its Landmark Conference showdown.     After a 20-day layoff, No. 3 Whitman picked up its first loss at Puget Sound while the New Jersey City women stayed perfect. On the men's side, Marietta rallied past Mount Union and into first place in the OAC and Concordia (Wis.) topped Wisconsin Lutheran.

    It was a rough day to be ranked in the teens of the women's Top 25 poll. Birmingham-Southern knocked off No. 16 Wheaton, Puget Sound rolled over No. 14 Augsburg and Coe dumped No. 15 UW-Platteville. On the men's side, the Rhode was unkind to Wabash.

  • Large first half run drives Loggers past Bearcats

    The Loggers kept Willamette without a field goal for nearly eight straight minutes in the first half to take a commanding 23-point lead into halftime. They build on that lead to begin the second half and breezed to an 80-52 victory over the Bearcats, their 18th consecutive win over Willamette.
