Baldwin Wallace, Messiah and Mass-Dartmouth used late bursts to advance through the first round, while three ranked teams were sent packing in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament.
No. 15 Chicago handled No. 1 New York University and handed the Violets their first loss, and No. 6 Scranton blitzed Elizabethtown in its Landmark Conference showdown. The Loggers kept Willamette without a field goal for nearly eight straight minutes in the first half to take a commanding 23-point lead into halftime. They build on that lead to begin the second half and breezed to an 80-52 victory over the Bearcats, their 18th consecutive win over Willamette.
