Loggers Drop OT Battle With Concordia

TACOMA, Wash. – A back and forth battle between the Puget Sound women's basketball team and Concordia ended in a tough 80-77 overtime loss for the Loggers (3-2). The Loggers erased a halftime deficit to force overtime but the Cavaliers (3-4) were to come away with the win in overtime.

Down by three with less than a minute to go, Taylor Jones hit a free throw and went down the floor to steal the ball back for the Loggers. Kelsey McKinnis' layup on the ensuing possession tied the game at 69-69 and forced overtime.

Jones looked to stay hot in overtime as she hit a pair of three-pointers to put the Loggers up 77-76 with 46 seconds remaining. However, Megan Padilla scored on the Cavs next possession to regain the lead. Padilla's lay-in was the final of her game-high 21 points. Gabi Beyer pushed the lead to three with a pair of free throws and Jones' final three-point attempt rimmed out as time expired.

Jones finished with seven points, which all come in the final six minutes of the game. Kelsey McKinnis scored 16 points to lead the Loggers and Jocelyn Riordan added 14 points. Amanda Forshay tallied 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Courtney May added 18 points for the Cavs and Grace Cappleman scored 10 while Beyer finished with 12 points.

The four lead changes in overtime lived up to the expectation of the game that went back and forth all day. There were 13 lead changes and 10 ties in the game. The Cavs built a 37-32 lead at the half with a 21-3 advantage in points off turnovers.

However, the Loggers came out determined and on fire in the second half. They quickly erased the deficit and built a nine point lead with just under eight minutes left. The Cavs fought back to take a late lead in the second half before McKinnis forced OT.

The Loggers will head to Oregon to open up NWC play next weekend when they face Pacific on Friday and Willamette on Saturday.
