It was a rough day to be ranked in the teens of the women's Top 25 poll, as No. 14 Augsburg, No. 15 UW-Platteville and No. 16 Wheaton (Ill.) fell in Saturday action.

Puget Sound opened the game with a 14-0 run against No. 14 Augsburg and the Loggers rolled to a 74-51 victory at home. Puget Sound (3-1) held Augsburg to two field goals in the first quarter, the first one coming more than seven minutes into the game. The Augies (5-1) pulled within three at 30-27 late in the second half, only to see Puget Sound respond with a 10-0 run. The Loggers shot 50 percent from three (9-for-18) and outrebounded Augsburg 50-28.

Jamie Lange paced Puget Sound with 14 points and 14 rebounds in 27 minutes. The Loggers will play No. 20 Trinity (Texas), UW-Oshkosh and No. 13 Whitman over the holidays.

Wheaton All-American Hannah Frazier scored 28 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as Birmingham-Southern's balanced attack prevailed, 67-64.. After losing a 14-point lead early in the third quarter, the Panthers (6-1) regrouped and went on a 9-2 run to regain the lead. Trailing 63-61, the Thunder (6-2) had a chance to tie the game in the final minute but turned the ball over. Misa Fuji was fouled for Birmingham-Southern and she iced the game with two free throws.

The Panthers had three players score double figures, led by Derienne Black (23 points). Emilee Olsen notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

No. 15 UW-Platteville's first game as a ranked team went poorly, as Coe picked off the Pioneers, 62-50. Sisters Jackie and Jamie Feldt combined for 25 points and nine rebounds for the Kohawks (4-2).

The rest of the women's Top 25 fared better. No. 10 Transylvania bounced back from Friday night's loss to Maryville by edging Redlands, 59-57. Shelby Boyle tallied 22 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Pioneers (4-1). No. 11 DePauw topped Washington U. 69-58 on another big night for Sydney Kopp (25 points). The Tigers (5-1) will play No. 19 Illinois Wesleyan tomorrow since the Titans ripped through Rose-Hulman, 68-34.

Outside the Top 25, Southern Virginia outscored Maryville 48-23 in the second half on route to a 68-56 victory over the Scots. Katie Garrish and Savanna Christensen combined for 37 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists for the Knights (6-1).

Betsy Knox's double-double (20 points, 13 rebounds) helped Middlebury stay undefeated with a 65-59 win at Cabrini. The Panthers (5-0) also got 17 points and nine rebounds from Maya Davis. 

Wisconsin Lutheran picked up a rare loss in conference, as Concordia (Wis.) shut down the Warriors, 53-41. The Falcons picked up their first win of the season and dealt Wisconsin Lutheran just its fourth conference loss in the last two-plus seasons.

Men's recap: Rough Rhode for Wabash at Elmhurst

Jake Rhode scored all of his 19 points in the second half for Elmhurst, and the Bluejays stayed perfect with an 83-66 win at home over No. 23 Wasbash. Rhode's first basket came midway through the second half with a three-pointer that put Elmhurst ahead by nine. He then scored 12 more over the next five minutes as the Bluejays built an insurmountable lead. 

Matthew Schner, Romin Williams and Lawrence Rowley combined for 76 points and 26 rebounds, and No. 2 Emory outscored Pfeiffer, 124-112. The Eagles (6-0) outrebounded the Falcons 62-30 and outscored them in the paint 70-32.

Keith Bunkenburg won his 400th game with ease as Benedictine cruised past Lakeland, 93-63. Bunkenburg is 400-246 in 24-plus seasons at Benedictine.

Oglethorpe beat Maryville 83-81 in overtime on Lane Foster's running three at the buzzer. Clarks Summit picked up its first win in more than two seasons, beating Bryn Athyn in the teams' conference opener, 75-71. The Defenders won their 2017-18 season opener against St. Elizabeth and then lost 56 straight before Saturday's victory. At the other end of the spectrum, Colby kept its perfect record in tact as the Mules hit 12 three-pointers in a 81-67 win at New Jersey 
City.
