January 2, 2026 Toa Hollenbeck Records 1,000th Career Point as Christopher Newport Defeats Rowan, 64-58 Christopher Newport University opened 2026 by holding off the Profs of Rowan University, 64-58, Friday at the Stockton University Classic. Junior Toa Hollenebck led the way for CNU with 19 points, surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his career and becoming the 35th player in CNU history to reach the plateau. Junior Tyson Henderson scored 15 points and freshman Tyler Sprague also reached double digits wih ten points as the Captains improved to 12-3, while the Profs fell to 2-9 on the year.
December 30, 2025 Christopher Newport Holds Off RIT, 68-59, For 10th Win in Last 11 Games Christopher Newport University held off the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tuesday night to improve to 11-3 on the season. The Captains had four players score in double figures in the 68-59 victory at the Freeman Center on the second day of the Captains Shootout. The triumph was the tenth in the last 11 games for CNU, as the Captains improved to 6-1 at the Freeman Center this season. RIT fell to 3-5 with the loss. Junior Collin Hines led the way for CNU, scoring 17 points, and also filled the stat sheet with nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Junior Tyson Henderson tallied 15 points one day after recording a new career high of 29 in CNU's victory over Hood College on Monday on the first day of the tourney. Junior Ethan Ward posted 12 points and junior Ryan Derderian came off the bench and registered career highs with 12 points and 16 rebounds as the Captains won the first-ever meeting of the schools.
December 29, 2025 Christopher Newport Downs Hood College, 96-79, Thanks to Three-Point Barrage in Captains Shootout Junior Tyson Henderson scored a career-high 29 points Monday night as Christopher Newport University defeated Hood College, 96-79, on the opening day of the Captains Shootout at the Freeman Center. Junior Toa Hollenbeck added 27 points as the Captains improved to 10-3 on the year. CNU scorched the nets in the first half, knocking down 12 three-pointers on 24 attempts, and finished the game with 16 from long range. Henderson led the way, making all five of his three-point attempts, and Hollenbeck connected for four triples as the Captains upped their record at home this season to 5-1.
December 20, 2025 Christopher Newport Recovers After Slow Start to Beat Denison, 79-73 Christopher Newport University used a 23-5 run in the opening half to get the lead over Denison University, and held off the Big Red, 79-73, in the Jay Bilas Classic at Johnson & Wales University. Junior Toa Hollenbeck led the way with 24 points, as four Captains reached double figures in the scoring column. John Krikorian's team fell behind in the early-going, 20-8, but awakened thanks in large part to the three-point shooting of two freshmen, Tyler Sprague and Cam Quarles. Sprague scored 11 first half points, with nine coming on three triples, and Quarles scored six on two long shots to spark the CNU offense. Junior Ethan Ward posted 14 points and senior Collin Hines added ten as Christopher Newport improved to 9-3 on the season. Hines also led the Captains in rebounding with eight for the day.
December 16, 2025 Christopher Newport Defeats 12th-Ranked Virginia Wesleyan in Double Overtime, 97-95 Christopher Newport University and Virginia Wesleyan University staged an epic battle Tuesday night at the Freeman Center in the 92nd all-time meeting of the men's basketball programs. The Captains and Marlins battled for 50 minutes, with CNU emerging with a 97-95 double overtime victory. The triumph was the seventh straight for John Krikorian's squad, and the Captains are now 8-2 on the season. Virginia Wesleyan, ranked 12th in the country this week, had a six-game winning streak snapped and the Marlins are now 7-2. All five Christopher Newport starters scored in double figures, led by 26 points from junior Toa Hollenbeck, and the Captains got double-doubles from senior Collin Hines (14 points, 12 rebounds) and junior Ethan Ward (13 points, 14 rebounds). Juniors Tyson Henderson and Isaiah Dozier both contributed 18 points as the Captains held off the Marlins despite a 41-point performance from VWU graduate student Omari DeVeaux.
December 6, 2025 Christopher Newport Wins Sixth Straight, Beating Southern Virginia, 81-58 Christopher Newport University again blew open a close game in the second half to cruise to victory, beating Southern Virginia University Saturday afternoon, 81-58. The win was the sixth straight for the Captains, who improved to 7-2 on the season. CNU's defense allowed just 19 points in the second half, and junior Toa Hollenbeck led the way in scoring with 20 points, and senior Collin Hines (11) and junior Ethan Ward (10) also reached double digits in the scoring column.
