NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Christopher Newport coasted to a 90-41 triumph over Penn State-Harrisburg Saturday at the Freeman Center. The ninth-ranked Captains never trailed, led 50-19 at the half, and posted the largest victory in the six-year tenure of Head Coach John Krikorian. The 49-point win is also the largest for CNU since January 3, 2006, when the Captains downed Maine-Presque Isle by 58 points, 115-57.

CNU is now 17-1 overall and 11-0 atop the Capital Athletic Conference. The victory was the seventh straight for the Captains, who now lead the CAC by four games over Salisbury. The Sea Gulls lost in overtime at York on Saturday, 76-68.

"You never expect something like this," Head Coach John Krikorian said. "We did a lot of really good things today and got some valuable playing time for our entire team. We were just talking this week about how important it is to get time on the floor for everybody, and this will help us down the road."

The Captains were led by 16 points from sophomore Aaron McFarland and 14 points from fellow sophomore Marcus Carter as 15 of 16 Captains who played got in the scoring column. CNU out-rebounded Penn State-Harrisburg, 35-24, with junior Tim Daly leading the way with seven boards. Daly also contributed nine points for the Captains.

CNU held an 8-6 first-half lead before going on a 42-13 run to lead by 31 at the intermission, 50-19. Christopher Newport's defense held the Lions to just two field goals in the entire second half, as the visitors went just two for 15 from the field in the final 20 minutes. CNU's defense also forced 25 turnovers for the day.

"I've been on the other side of games like this," Krikorian said. "I know how Penn State-Harrisburg feels, and it's really tough because they're a good team...they've won ten games this year. Sometimes when things get rolling it's just tough to stop."

A total of 64 fouls were called in the game, and the teams combined for 79 free throw attempts. CNU made 33 of 45 foul shots for 73 percent while the Lions converted on 27 of 34 from the line (79 percent). The Lions are now 10-8 on the season and 5-6 in CAC play.

A crowd of 1,174 watched the Captains win over the Lions for the fifth time in six all-time meetings. Six new members were inducted into the Christopher Newport Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime, including former men's basketball standouts JoJo Chambers and Terry Gray.

The Captains will begin a new month with a three-game road swing that begins on Monday, when CNU plays at Frostburg State. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Bobcats Arena in Frostburg, MD. The game is a make-up of last week's scheduled meeting that was postponed by wintry weather conditions. The Bobcats are 6-12 overall and 4-7 in the CAC following a road loss at Marymount Saturday, 84-62.

CNU will then play at Salisbury on Wednesday and at Wesley next Saturday.
