FROSTBURG, Md. - The Captains opened a new month, and a three-game road swing Monday night with an 82-71 win over Frostburg State. John Krikorian's sixth-ranked team led by as many as 31 in the second half en route to their ninth straight victory and an 18-1 overall mark. With the win, CNU remains unbeaten in Capital Athletic Conference play with a 12-0 record. The Captains can clinch the regular-season conference title with a win on Wednesday night at second-place Salisbury.

"Every night we know that we are going to be challenged," said Krikorian. "I was very pleased with how we built the lead through the second half."

Tim Daly led the charge with his fourth double-double of the season, scoring a season-high 20 points and collecting 10 rebounds.

"Tim was exceptional tonight," continued Krikorian. "He performed at a very high level and really took over the game. At one point, he came to me and said 'give me the ball.'" Daly battled around the basket all game fighting his way to a 12-14 performance at the free throw line and 4 of nine shooting from the field.

Junior guard, Kevin Regimbal scored the first seven points of the game, jumping out to a 7-2 lead early. Playing on Frostburg's home floor, CNU led by as many as 17 in the first stanza before settling for a nine point lead at the half, 40-31. Marcus Carter joined Daly in setting the tone early by attacking the basket and connecting on five of his six free throw attempts in the first 20 minutes.

It took nearly three minutes of game action in the second half before the Captains looked to a familiar place to get into a rhythm: Daly. Frostburg trimmed the CNU lead to seven on a layup by Shawn Henson seconds into the second half and the score remained a seven point differential until Daly got to the line with 17:13 to play. His free throw was the first point of a 28-5 run over the next nine minutes of play in which Daly collected all twelve of his second half points.

For the remainder of the game, Frostburg came to life. Senior guard Nick Smoot connected on five of seven three-point attempts on his way to 23 total, 21 of which came in the second half. His barrage led the Bobcats during the final eight minutes when Frostburg outscored CNU 31-11 and trimmed their deficit to the final eleven-point margin.

The Captains, ranked ninth last week, jumped to number six in the d3hoops.com national poll which was released earlier Monday. The victory improved CNU's record to 9-0 on the road this season, a mark they will put on the line Wednesday night when they travel to Salisbury, the second place team in the Capital Athletic Conference.

The Sea Gulls carry a 15-4 overall record along with their 8-4 mark in CAC play. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Maggs Center with the game being broadcast on the CNU/Pepsi radio network and CNUsports.com/LIVE.
