January 15, 2025 7th-ranked Christopher Newport Falls at Randolph-Macon, 77-72, Snapping Five-Game Winning Streak Randolph-Macon College out-scored Christopher Newport University, 9-4, over the final two minutes Wednesday night as the 16th-ranked Yellow Jackets defeated the 7th-ranked Captains, 77-72, in front of 1,013 frenzied fans at Crenshaw Gymnasium. The loss ended a CNU five-game winning streak, and dropped the Captains to 14-4 on the season. Christopher Newport trailed by two at halftime, 36-34, and the teams exchanged the lead 13 times in the back-and-forth battle, with six lead changes coming in the second half. The teams were never separated by more than six points, and were knotted seven times, including a 68-68 tie with 1:58 to play before the 9-4 game-ending run by the Yellow Jackets.
January 8, 2025 12th-Ranked Christopher Newport Extends Winning Streak to Five with 85-66 Win at Johns Hopkins Christopher Newport University began a stretch of four straight road contests Wednesday night, recording an 85-66 victory at Johns Hopkins University. The win was CNU's fifth straight, and ninth in the last ten games for the 12th-ranked Captains. Sophomore Jason Ofcarcik came off the bench to lead the way with his first double-double as a Captain. Ofcarcik scored a career-high 21 points and also topped the squad with 11 rebounds as John Krikorian's squad improved to 14-3 on the season. Sophomore Toa Hollenbeck (18) and fifth-year senior Jahn Hines (13) also reached double figures in scoring as the Captains won their first road game of 2025.
January 4, 2025 No. 1 Emory capsized at CNU The first poll of the New Year will have a new No. 1 after No. 18 Christopher Newport toppled top-ranked Emory on Saturday afternoon. Elsewhere, Babson tripped No. 3 Trinity (Conn.) in double overtime, North Park picked up a heady win at Carthage, and Wooster continued its rivalry roll.
January 4, 2025 Christopher Newport Knocks Off Emory, 83-76, Handing Top-Ranked Eagles First Loss of the Season Christopher Newport University won its fourth straight game Saturday, defeating the top team in the country, Emory University, at the Freeman Center. The 83-76 victory improved the Captains to 13-3 on the season, while the Eagles suffered their first loss in 11 games played. Fifth-year senior All-American Jahn Hines led the way with 19 points, one of four Captains to reach double figures in scoring. Sophomore Tyson Henderson scored 18, with 12 coming in the second half, and sophomore Toa Hollenbeck (17) and junior Collin Hines (10) also reached double digits.
December 30, 2024 Jahn Hines Posts 37 Points to Lead 18th-ranked Captains over Berry, 79-71, in Shootout Championship Fifth-year senior All-American Jahn Hines registered another memorable performance against Berry College (Ga.) on Monday.. Hines, who scored a career-high 39 points at Berry last New Year's Day in a CNU victory, tallied 37 points at the Freeman Center Monday, leading the Captains to a 79-71 victory over the Vikings in the Championship game of the Captains Shootout. The Captains improved to 12-3 with the hard-fought victory, and Hines received the MVP honor of the two-day tournament after setting a new scoring record for the Shootout. The Norfolk native also scored 19 on Sunday in a Christopher Newport victory over Misericordia University in the opening round, as the three-time All-American moved into seventh place on the CNU all-time scoring list.  Sophomore Toa Hollenbeck was also selected to the All-Tournament team after scoring 18 points and making six of seven free throws down the stretch to help the Captains seal the victory. Holenbeck posted 17 points on Sunday in the win over Misericordia.
December 29, 2024 18th-Ranked Christopher Newport Overpowers Misericordia, 81-50, in Captains Shootout Christopher Newport University posted a wire-to-wire victory Sunday, defeating Misericordia University, 81-50, in the opening round of the Captains Shootout. Fifth-year senior All-American Jahn Hines led the way with 19, and sophomore Toa Hollenbeck added 17 as the Captains improved to 11-3 on the season. Christopher Newport will play Berry College (Ga.) in the Championship game of the two-day tournament on Monday, with tip off set for 5:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center. Berry is 7-5 after downing Ferrum College, 83-79 in overtime, in Sunday's other opening round game. Misericordia (6-3) will play Ferrum (9-2) in the third-place game at 3:00 p.m.
