Women's
Hannah Hunter
Hunter averaged team highs in points (20.0) and assists (6.5),
while also pulling down eight rebounds per victory for the 2-0
Yellow Jackets. She led Waynesburg to one of its biggest wins in
recent history by pouring in 18 points, ripping down nine rebound
and dishing out seven assists in a 59-53 win at St. Vincent. Hunter
added 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in a
92-76 win over Bethany.
Akemi Arzouman
Arzouman came into the week averaging 11.1 points, but averaged
24.0 ppg to go along with 6.7 rebounds. Arzouman opened the New
Year by matching her career high with a 25-point effort against
Macalester, shooting 11-of-16 with seven rebounds. Just two nights
later she bettered both, tallying a career-best 28 points and a
season high-tying nine boards at Hamline. Her week concluded with a
19-point, four-rebound showing at Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday as
she was 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from the field, while the rest of
the team was only 9-of-37, 24.3 percent.
Erika Schultz
Schultz averaged 26 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shows for
the Boxers, including 29 points against No. 3 George Fox. She
helped the team cut a 17-point second-half deficit down to six by
scoring 15 consecutive points and accounting for 21 consecutive
points with two assists and an additional field goal during
second-half run.
Emily Peel
Peel led the Tartans to a 1-1 week while recording back-to-back
doubles to give her five for the season. She scored 19 points on
9-for-12 shooting with 12 rebounds and four blocks in a win against
Allegheny. She followed it up with 16 points, 13 rebounds and three
blocks in a loss at Case Western Reserve. In the two contests, Peel
averaged 17.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks while shooting
67.7% (14-21) from the floor.
Ellen Plendl
Plendl averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5.5 blocked shots for
the Blugolds. She finished with a double-double with 14 points and
10 rebounds in a win against UW-Stout. In a four-point loss at
UW-Stevens Point, Plendl recorded her eighth double-double of the
season as she scored 18 points while coming away with 10 rebounds.
For the week she was 12-for-16 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the
free throw line.
Men's
Austin Claunch
Claunch averaged 25.0 points, 6.5 assists and 2.0 steals as the
Eagles raised their overall record to 12-0. He shot 50 percent
(17-of-34) from the floor, including 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from
three-point range, and knocked down 90.0 percent (10-of-11) of his
free throw opportunities. Claunch guided Emory to a dramatic 83-81
victory over Rochester, playing all 40 minutes with a career-high
tying 27 points while doling out a game-high tying eight assists.
He came through with a number of key plays, especially over a 3:15
stretch in the second half where he scored 11 straight Emory
points, hitting all four of his field goal attempts in that span,
that helped erase a four-point deficit and give the Eagles a 70-67
edge with 5:12 left.
D.J. Strayhorn
Strayhorn helped the Greyhounds to a 3-1 record last week, putting
up 18 points in a win over Catholic, then followed it up with a
24-point effort as Moravian defeated Goucher. On the week, he
averaged 20.8 points, 4.8 assists and three steals per game while
shooting 41 percent from the field, 44 percent from three-point
range and 92 percent at the foul line.
Derek Bailey
Bailey scored a career-high 28 points to lead Wabash to a 77-70
victory on Friday night at Hiram. Fewer than 24 hours later he
topped the mark with a 32-point effort in the Little Giants' 61-47
win at Allegheny to keep Wabash at the top of the North Coast
Athletic Conference standings. Bailey hit eight three-point shots
against Allegheny while shooting 12-of-22 from the field
overall.
Ryan Sharry
Sharry averaged 29.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.7
blocks per game in a 3-0 week for the unbeaten Panthers. He made
35-of-45 from the floor (.778) and 14-of-17 from the line (.824).
During a 123-111 victory at RPI, Sharry poured in a career-high 41
points on 19-of-23 shooting (second-most made shots in program
history in a single game) to go along with nine boards. He had a
double-double (24-10) in a 79-57 win against Bates.
Paul Porter
Porter averaged 17 points and 16 rebounds. His 23 points and 18
rebounds against Shenandoah were career-highs. He shot 13-for-23
from the floor and 8-for-11 from the line.
