Men's
Matt Johnson
Johnson scored 85 points in two UAA wins. He tallied a school- and
conference-record 49 points, including the game-winning
three-pointer at the buzzer, in the Maroons' 103-102 upset of
fourth-ranked Emory, then poured in 36 points in Chicago’s
96-92 win over Rochester. Johnson's buzzer-beater against Emory was
featured on ESPN's Top 10 Plays of the Week.
Dylan Richter
Richter averaged 28 points per game and shot 64.3 percent from the
field in the Bears' two victories over the UAA preseason favorites
last weekend at home. Richter also shot 12-of-20 from three-point
range and went 8-of-10 from the foul line in the two wins. He
scored 23 points in an 83-78 win against Rochester on Friday, and
followed that up with a career-high 33 points and nine
three-pointers in a 99-88 victory over No. 4 ranked Emory on
Sunday.
Ray Askew
Askew netted 31 points on Saturday in the Falcons' win at Mount
Ida to become only the second player in program history to score
more than 2,000 points. Askew recorded his third straight
double-double with 31 points and 11 rebounds vs. the Mustangs. On
the week, he shot 53.4-percent for 84 points and pulled down 37
boards in a 3-0 week. He also recorded six steals and four blocked
shots. He had 30 points and 11 rebounds vs. Lasell on Jan. 24 and
then 23 points and 15 rebounds at Emmanuel on Jan. 26.
David Michaels
After matching his career-high with 31 points at Lewis &
Clark, Michaels erupted for 40 points to carry Whitman past George
Fox the next night. With his team trailing George Fox 42-41 early
in the second half, Michaels scored Whitman's next 22 points over a
nine-minute span to lift the Missionaries to a 63-50 lead. He was
8-of-8 from the field (4-for-4 from three-point range) and 2-for-2
from the free throw line during the run, which also saw him grab
two rebounds and make one of his game-high seven steals.
Mike Akinrola
Akinrola averaged 28.5 points and 10 rebounds as Rhode Island
College posted a 1-1 mark this past week in Little East action. He
was efficient from the floor, shooting at a 65.8 percent
(25-for-38) clip. Akinrola recorded his second double-double of the
season at Western Connecticut on Jan. 24, pouring in a career-high
36 points and puling in 13 rebounds. Four days later, he produced
21 points and collected seven boards as the Anchormen avenged an
earlier loss to No. 18 Eastern Connecticut.
Women's
Emily Savino
Savino sparked the Golden Bears to a pair of wins by averaging
22.5 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 63 percent from the
field (17-for-27), including 7-for-10 from three-point territory.
She netted 19 points (7-for-11 FG, 5-for-6 on three-pointers) and
had three assists in a 70-48 win over Gordon. Savino then poured in
26 points with seven rebounds (both season highs) in a 65-45 win at
Nichols.
Jessi Drayer
Drayer poured in a team-high 21 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow
Jackets this past week. She was the team's leading scorer in both
games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before
pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win against Geneva. She
averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals on the
week.
Megan Huey
Huey posted her third and fourth consecutive double-doubles over
the week. She had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a win at Monmouth to
go along with four blocked shots, then tallied 11 points and 16
boards against Lake Forest.
Haley Jordan
Jordan averaged 24 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, while
shooting 55.3 percent (21-for-38) from the field to lead Southern
Maine to a 2-0 mark. The junior collected her third double-double
of the season against Plymouth State, registering 25 points and a
season-high 16 rebounds. Four days later, Jordan poured in 23
points, on 10-for-16 from the floor, to help the Huskies earn the
season series sweep of Western Connecticut.
Ellen Plendl
Plendl set a school record for most career blocks as the Blugolds
split two games. In a 61-56 win over UW-Superior, Plendl had a
double-double with 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. She also
had four blocks to tie the school blocks record. Plendl had another
double-double in a loss at UW-Whitewater. She reached game-highs in
scoring and rebounding, with 19 points and 12 boards. Plendl also
had six blocks, breaking a school record for most blocks in a
career with 219.
