Women's
Katelyn Fischer
Fischer nearly posted a triple-double against St. Mary's, scoring
18 points with 11 rebounds and eight assists. She averaged 18.0
points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in a 2-0 week.
Jill Henrikson
Henrikson was impressive for the Polar Bears during a 2-1 week, as
she averaged 22.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.0 steals per game.
She sank half of her 40 attempts from the floor, connected on 10 of
23 from long range (.435), and made 17 of 19 free throws (.895). In
a 65-45 win against Eastern Connecticut, Henrikson had 25 points,
nine rebounds, and nine steals. She scored 17 points in Friday's
68-58 win at Middlebury and closed the week with a double-double at
Williams, netting 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a 67-55
setback.
Jil Vaughan
Vaughan was one rebound shy of averaging a double-double for the
Mules. She had 11 points and six boards in the first half as the
Mules and Williams played to a 28-28 tie and then with Williams on
a 7-0 run to cut Colby's lead to 54-49, Vaughan hit an inside
basket for a seven-point lead with 1:38 to play on the way to a
62-56 win. She shot 61.5 percent or better in all three games.
Vaughan has six double-doubles in scoring and rebounding this
season and has 18 blocked shots in the last seven games.
Morgan Herrick
Herrick averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds as Chicago swept a
pair of UAA games on the road to improve to 20-0. After finishing
with 17 points and five boards in a 79-55 win at Emory, Herrick
totaled 19 points and seven rebounds in the Maroons' 68-55 win at
fifth-ranked Rochester. In the two games, Herrick shot 70.8% from
the field (17 of 24).
Catherine O'Connell
Averaging 15.5 points and 19.0 rebounds, O'Connell led the
Nighthawks to a 2-0 week that included the program's first victory
over Elms. O'Connell started off the week by picking up her 1,000th
rebound of her collegiate career in a 79-59 rout of Mitchell where
she registered her 13th double-double of the season, netting 13
points and 18 boards. She topped those numbers in Newbury's
14-point win vs. Elms, where she tallied 18 points and 20
rebounds.
Men's
John Sanchez
Sanchez's week included a game-winning jumper, a win at the
league's No. 2 team and his 1,000th career point. In a 69-67 win
against Plymouth State, Sanchez sank the game-winning jumper with
2.7 seconds left, scoring 16 points, handing out nine assists. In a
65-63 win against second-place Wheelock, Sanchez scored 23 points,
shot 10-for-12 from the line and dished out seven assists. His
first half 19-footer against Southern Vermont in an 85-73 win
marked point No. 1,000. He led the team with 25 points and nine
assists. For the week, Sanchez averaged 21.3 points, 3.3 rebounds,
8.3 assists and 2.3 steals. He shot 65 percent from the field, 88
percent from the charity stripe and 2-for-4 from three-point
range.
Mitch Marmelstein
Marmelstein averaged 26.5 points per game in two victories for
Grove City. He fired in a career-high 27 points at Geneva in a
76-74 win, then 26 in an 80-78 victory over Westminster (Pa.). His
six three-pointers against Westminster tied a school record. For
the week, he shot 18-of-31 (58 percent) from the field, including a
10-for-17 (59 percent) effort on three-pointers. He also averaged
3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and had zero turnovers in 63 minutes.
DaQuan Brooks
Brooks became the first Western Connecticut men's basketball
player to eclipse the 2,000 career point barrier. He averaged 34.5
points and five assists, while shooting 23-for-43 from the field
and 13-for-22 from three-point range (59 percet) to lead the
Colonials to a 2-0 week. Brooks produced a season-high 47 points,
including nine three-pointers, to lift Western Connecticut to a
victory against Connecticut College. He converted on a traditional
three-point play late in the game against the Camels to accomplish
the milestone. Four days later, Brooks scored 22 points with seven
assists to lead Western to a win at Little East rival at
Mass-Dartmouth.
Alvino Ashley
Ashley scored a season-high 36 points in Olivet's 88-86
come-from-behind win over Alma. He also grabbed 10 rebounds, dished
out four assists and did not commit a turnover in 36 minutes.
Ashley averaged 29.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists for the
Comets.
Chris Davis
Davis scored 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the
Warhawks' lone game of the week, a 72-62 win against UW-La Crosse.
He shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the line, 3-for-5 from three-point
range and 7-for-14 from the floor, while also blocking a shot.
