• Wheaton women's basketball upsets No. 25 Millikin for Thunder "Senior Night"

    Wheaton, Ill. -- The Millikin women's basketball team came into King Arena on Saturday evening looking to win their 15th consecutive regular season conference game and further cement their position atop the CCIW standings, but the Wheaton Thunder had other plans for a special occasion. Before the Senior Night contest tipped off, the Thunder recognized three veteran players for their contributions to the program over the last few years. The celebrations did not end there, however, as the home side sprang an emphatic upset with a 66-48 win over the #25 team in the country and ended Millikin's bid to earn a perfect conference record. Senior Ellie Cassel had a performance to remember in her King Arena send-off, and rookie Anna Fernandez joined her as the second Thunder player to earn a double-double in Saturday's win. The result moves Wheaton to a 13-9 overall record and an 8-5 mark in CCIW action.

    Bloomington, Ill. -- The Wheaton women's basketball team traveled south on Saturday afternoon looking to earn their second conference win of the season against a talented Illinois Wesleyan squad. Despite seeing their slim halftime lead turn into an eight-point deficit in the third quarter, the Thunder rallied in the final frame to eventually earn a 63-57 win on the road. Wheaton's record now stands at 7-3 overall and 2-1 in CCIW play heading into the Christmas break.

The Thunder utilized an impressive second quarter performance and a dominant advantage in rebounding to defeat the Vikings 63-54.

    Naperville, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball team earned a CCIW road win at North Central College (7-12, 4-6 CCIW) on Saturday night. The Thunder never trailed in tonight's contest as the guests earned the 77-56 victory. Wheaton returns to King Arena next Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff against Carthage.

The Thunder will play Illinois Wesleyan (22-4) tomorrow night after the Titans defeated Carthage 78-59 Friday night in the opening semifinal game in King Arena.

The thrilling game had 19 lead changes and was tied on eight occasions.

Wheaton is now 20-4 on the season with a 13-2 record in conference play. The victory gives Wheaton its fourth-consecutive 20-win season, the longest streak of consecutive 20-win seasons in program history. Tonight's victory stretched Wheaton's current win streak to 14 games, the longest for the program since a 14-game win-streak in 2004-05.
