Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's basketball team earned an 80-67 victory at home on Wednesday night against Carthage (3-3, 0-2 CCIW). The victory improves Wheaton to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in CCIW play.

Wheaton was in control early as the Thunder scored the game's first 15 points to lead 15-0 with 3:45 remaining in the first quarter. The Thunder maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the first quarter as the hosts led 25-13 at the end of the first quarter. Thunder sophomore Hannah Williams led Wheaton in the opening quarter with nine points on 3-of-3 shooting from three-point range.

The Wheaton double-digit lead continued into the second quarter as Wheaton led by 16 points at halftime with a 42-25 lead.

Carthage rallied back in the third quarter. Wheaton led by 12 points at 53-41 with 2:28 remaining in the game when a pair of Carthage free throws sparked a 9-2 run for the Lady Reds to close out the quarter as Wheaton's lead was trimmed to just five points at 55-50 at the end of the third quarter.

Wheaton's Jordan Myroth made a layup to open the fourth quarter to give the hosts a 57-50 lead with 9:14 remaining in the game. Carthage responded with a 6-0 run to cut the Thunder lead to 57-56 with 8:15 left in the game. Wheaton led 71-59 with7:00 remaining in the fourth quarter when a Hannah Frazier layup keyed a 17-6 Wheaton run that extended the hosts' lead to 78-65 with 2:40 remaining in the game. Frazier scored all nine of her fourth-quarter points in the key run.

Frazier led all players tonight with 29 points. The junior added nine rebounds and five assists. Williams scored 13 points, with three three-pointers. Jennifer Berg tallied a "double-double" with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Berg shot 4-of-6 from the field, including 2-for-3 from three-point range. Jordan Myroth scored 11 points with six assists and two blocked shots. Devin Kyler scored nine points with six rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots.

Wheaton posted a 46% (29-of-63) field goal percentage, including 36% (9-of-25) from three-point range. Carthage shot 39% (23-of-59) from the field, including 45.5% (10-of-22) behind the three-point arc. Wheaton owned a 38-35 edge in rebounding and each team gathered nine offensive rebounds in the game. Wheaton dominated the game down low as the Thunder out-scored Carthage 36-14 in the paint. The hosts capitalized on 12 Carthage turnovers to score 23 points.

Autumn Kalis scored 20 points with five rebounds for Carthage. Sammie Woodward scored 17 points and Haley Ahr added nine points.

Wheaton hosts No. 25 UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in King Arena.
