    Four players were honored this week by the national basketball coaches associations and Allstate Insurance for their community service. The honorees are Holly Denfeld from MSOE, Grace Smith from Kalamazoo, Steven Weidlich from Susquehanna and Evan Greening from Pitt-Bradford.

    Katie Nelson, who was an assistant at Johns Hopkins the past six seasons, was named the next head coach for Milwaukee School of Engineering. She replaces Jessica Ott who became the head coach and Athletic Director at conference rival Alverno.

    Alverno lost its head coach and athletic director to UW-Stevens Point earlier this offseason. On July 7 the Inferno selected former Pointer All-American and MSOE head coach Jessica Ott to fill those two vacancies.

MSOE advances to face Dominican Friday night in River Forest, Ill.

    Senior center Carol Cayo grabbed 1,000th career rebound early in the second half as MSOE women's basketball defeated Rockford 53-41 Tuesday night in Rockford, Ill. The Raiders moved to 6-1 in NAC play and continue to lead the South Division.

    Three Raiders scored in double figures but MSOE fell to top seed Wisconsin Lutheran 76-55 Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the NAC Tournament in Milwaukee. Freshman Shannon Larson led the Raiders with 16 points while sophomore forward Heather Miller put in 15 points.

    Sophomore forward Heather Miller scored 21 points as the Raiders held off Concordia-Chicago 36-35 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center to clinch a spot in the NAC Tournament. MSOE trailed as many as eight points in the second half but battled back to get the victory. Miller also led MSOE with nine rebounds.

    Junior center Carol Cayo grabbed 16 rebounds while freshman forward Shannon Larson scored 18 points but the Raiders fell to Benedictine 67-59 Thursday night in Lisle, Ill. Larson also had eight rebounds and Cayo had nine points, five assists, three blocks and two steals.

    Freshman forward Shannon Larson scored 18 points but Wisconsin Lutheran beat the Raiders 77-51 Saturday afternoon. Larson also grabbed six rebounds for MSOE. Junior center Carol Cayo had 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

    Junior center Carol Cayo scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and freshman forward Shannon Larson had 19 points but the Raiders lost in overtime to Lakeland 74-66 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center. Cayo now has 11 double-doubles this season. She also had six steals, five assists and two blocks.
  • Cayo reaches 1,000 career points in loss to Dominican

    In just her third season at MSOE, junior center Carol Cayo reached the 1,000-point plateau Tuesday night in the Raiders' 84-53 loss to Dominican at the Kern Center. Cayo had 11 points in the game and hit 1,000 points with 2:36 left in the second half with a free-throw. She is the seventh player in the history of the MSOE women's basketball program to reach 1,000 points.

    Junior center Carol Cayo scored 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds but the MSOE women's basketball team fell to Concordia-Wisconsin 64-55 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center in Milwaukee. For Cayo, it was her eighth double-double on the year. Cayo also blocked four shots.

    The Raiders got another double-double from junior center Carol Cayo Tuesday night at the Kern Center but fell to Rockford 48-45 in a NAC battle. Cayo scored 16 points and pulled down ten rebounds against the Regents. She also blocked four shots.

    It was a close game the entire way but the Raiders fell to Edgewood 55-51 Saturday afternoon in Madison, Wis. Junior center Carol Cayo led MSOE with 15 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three blocks while junior guard Marguerite Wellstein scored 14 points.

    Freshman forward Shannon Larson scored 21 points and pulled down 22 rebounds as the Raiders knocked off Mount Mary 77-53 in an intracity nonconference matchup at the Kern Center Monday night. Both were career highs for Larson. Junior center Carol Cayo was also a force down low as she put in 19 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.

    Junior center Carol Cayo scored 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Raiders beat Finlandia 72-62 Thursday night in Hancock, Mich. Sophomore forward Heather Miller had 13 points while freshman guard Stephanie Haugen scored ten points.

    Junior guard Kathleen Collingbourne scored a career-high 18 points but the Raiders dropped a nonconference game against the University of Chicago 76-62 at the Kern Center Thursday night. Collingbourne knocked down five three-pointers in the game. Junior center Carol Cayo had 15 points.

Junior guard Marguerite Wellstein led the Raiders with 14 points while sophomore forward Heather Miller put in 13 points. Junior center Carol Cayo picked up her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds and also blocked three shots.

    Junior center Carol Cayo scored a game-high 23 points and had nine rebounds but the Raiders fell to Dominican 56-49 Thursday night in River Forest, Ill. Cayo was 9-10 from the free throw line and grabbed six offensive rebounds.

    Junior guard Marguerite Wellstein nailed a three-pointer with six seconds left as the Raiders beat Aurora 67-65 Tuesday night in a NAC contest on the road. Wellstein also hit a shot from beyond the arc with a minute left in the game. She scored 21 points on the night to tie her career best output. Wellstein drained seven three-pointers in the game.
  • Cayo's double double lifts MSOE women's basketball to victory against Maranatha

    Junior Carol Cayo scored 22 points and pulled down 20 rebounds as the Raiders beat Maranatha Baptist 52-43 Saturday afternoon in Watertown, Wis. For Cayo, it's her third double double of the season in four games.

    Sophomore Heather Miller scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed ten rebounds but the Raiders fell to Benedictine 80-69 in both teams' first NAC game of the season. For Miller, it was her first double double of her career. She was 8-13 from the field at the Kern Center Wednesday night.
