FORT WAYNE, Indiana — For a few weeks last year, Jason Ellis had come to terms with his Marietta College basketball career ending following the shortened COVID season.
When Jon VanderWal arrived at Marietta in 2007, the Pioneers were playing in front of 75 fans and were lucky to come up with six wins. After two previous losses in the round of eight, however, the Pioneers finally punched that ticket.
FORT WAYNE, Indiana — Over the past decade, the Marietta College men’s basketball team has been one of the premier NCAA D3 programs. But one important milestone has escaped coach Jon VanderWal and the Pioneers — a national championship.
