Keene State downs #17 Marietta

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana — Keene State College posted a convincing 84-62 win over No. 17 Marietta College Saturday (Nov. 19) afternoon in the Great Lakes Invitational. The loss drops Marietta to 2-2 overall, while Keene State improves to 4-0 on the season.
 
"Give Keene State credit. They dominated us in every fashion; offensively, defensively and rebounding wise," Marietta head coach Jon VanderWal said. "Our youth showed, and we had some unfortunate situations with injuries during the game. David (Sanford) rolled his ankle and Sahmi (Willoughby) only getting to play a minute before he goes out with an injury."
 
Keene State hit three three-pointers in the opening minutes of the game to grab an early 11-4 lead. The Pioneers got within two points twice on jumpers from Addy Black. The Owls responded with a 7-0 run to push their lead back to nine points, 22-13, at the 11:13 mark.
 
A 9-0 run for Keene State extended the margin to 20 points, 39-19, with 4:40 remaining in the first half. The Owls led 45-24 at halftime.
 
Three-pointers from Mason Jean Baptiste and Jeric Cichon to start the second half stretched the lead to 28 points, 54-26. The Owls led by as many as 33 points in the second half before Marietta ended the game on a 11-3 run.
 
Danny Flood came off the bench to lead Marietta with 11 points. Black and Sanford finished with nine points each.
 
Keene State had five players in double figures. Jeff Hunter had a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Spencer Aronson had 14 points, while Jean Baptiste and Cichon finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Octavio Brito chipped in with 11 points.
 
Marietta is off until opening Ohio Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (Nov. 30) at Otterbein University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
