  • MIT Tops No. 9/15 Springfield, 76-72; Antonakakis Scores MIT Record 44 Points

    Two free throws by senior Paula Pieper (Greenville, S.C.) thwarted a late rally by No. 9/15 Springfield College as MIT captured a 76-72 victory in NEWMAC women’s basketball action on Wednesday night. Senior Christina Antonakakis (Holmdel, N.J.) scored 44 points, breaking the program record for points in a game, which she previously set with 40 at Westfield State University on November 16, 2021. Her scoring performance is an MIT basketball record as she eclipsed the men’s basketball mark of 43 points established by Jimmy Bartolotta ’09 in 2008, resulting in a new facility record for Rockwell Cage. In addition, Antonakakis set a program record for three-pointers in a game with nine. Sam Hourihan paced the Pride with 22 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

    Nationally-ranked No. 12/14 Saint Joseph’s College of Maine drained all six of its free throws during the final 42 seconds to hold off MIT’s comeback attempt and record a 68-61 victory in the first round of the NCAA Division Women’s Basketball Tournament at Ithaca College on Friday night. Senior Dolly Yuan (San Jose, Calif.) tallied 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals for the Engineers.
  • MIT Defeats Springfield, 66-50, to Capture Second Straight NEWMAC Women’s Basketball Championship

    An 18-4 run during the second quarter gave No. 4 seeded MIT a lead it would not relinquish as it went on to defeat host and No. 3 seed Springfield College, 66-50, for its second straight NEWMAC Women’s Basketball Championship on Saturday. Sophomore Jocelyn Luizzi (Colchester, Conn.) powered the Engineers with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs, for her first career double-double. Senior Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player for performance throughout the week.

    No. 4 seeded MIT knocked down 12 three-pointers, generated 28 points off of 27 Babson College turnovers, and limited the top-seeded Beavers to a 29.4 shooting performance as the Engineers recorded a 73-46 victory in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday night. One of four players to reach double-digits in scoring, senior Taylor V’Dovec (Blaine, Wash.) paced MIT with 14 points in 22 minutes of action. Payton Ouimette led Babson with 14 points while grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds.
  • No. 4 Seed MIT Advances to NEWMAC Semis With 76-58 Win Over No. 5 Emerson

    Led by four players in double figures and 23 forced turnovers, the No. 4 seeded MIT women’s basketball team defeated No. 5 Emerson College by a 76-58 final on Tuesday night in the first round of the NEWMAC Tournament.

First-year Christina Anontakakis (Holmdel, N.J.) came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points for the Engineers while dishing out three assists.

    The MIT women's basketball team closed its regular season home schedule with an 81-48 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win over Wheaton College on Wednesday evening inside Rockwell Cage.

    Regionally-ranked No. 10 Smith College outscored No. 9 MIT, 24-14, in the fourth quarter, helping it pull away for a 70-56 NEWMAC women’s basketball victory on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers saw Kennedy Guest-Pritchett and Katy McClellan both produce 20 points in addition to recording nine and seven rebounds, respectively. Senior Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) paced the Engineers’ balanced scoring performance with 13 points in addition to recording four assists and four steals.

    MIT opened the game with 19 unanswered points and never looked back as it went on to defeat Mount Holyoke College, 63-33, in NEWMAC women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Kylie Gallagher (Upton, Mass.) led all players with 15 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Engineers in 12 minutes of play while Kaitlyn Grover paced the Lyons with 12 points and three steals.

    Three free throws during the final 2:46 of regulation would be just enough for Wesleyan University as it came from behind to defeat MIT, 46-44, in non-conference women’s basketball action on Tuesday night. First-year Christina Antonakakis (Holdmel, N.J.) paced the Engineers with 11 points while grabbing two steals.

    MIT outscored WPI, 21-11, in the third quarter on its way to a 57-46 win in a NEWMAC women’s basketball game on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Jocelyn Luizzi (Colchester, Conn.) produced a team-high 11 points and six rebounds to go along with two assists and a steal while coming off the bench for MIT.
  • Late Rally Falls Short as Babson Holds on to Defeat MIT, 55-53

    After trailing by 17 points late in the third quarter, the MIT women’s basketball team narrowed the gap to two with 41 seconds remaining in regulation, but it could not overcome the deficit as Babson College held on for a 55-53 victory in NEWMAC action on Wednesday night. First-year Christina Antonakakis (Holmdel, N.J.) paced the Engineers with 15 points, with 12 coming during their fourth-quarter rally.
  • V’Dovec Records 1,000th Career Point in MIT’s 76-59 Win Over Clark

    A strong second quarter helped MIT pull away from Clark University and go on to record a 76-59 victory in NEWMAC women’s basketball action on Saturday. Senior Taylor V’Dovec (Blaine, Wash.) tallied 16 points, helping her become the ninth player in program history to reach 1,000 points. She also hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with two blocks for the Engineers.

    A balanced scoring performance which featured three players in double digits helped the MIT women’s basketball team defeat NEWMAC foe Wellesley College, 68-39, on Wednesday night. Senior Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) powered the Engineers with 12 points, five assists, two blocks, and two steals while Caitlin Aguirre paced the Blue with 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

    A strong defensive performance that held Emerson College scoreless during the final five minutes of regulation helped MIT secure a 54-43 victory in a NEWMAC women’s basketball game on Thursday. Senior Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) paced the Engineers with a game-high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Ashley Toner led the way for the Lions with 13 points coming off the bench.

Sophomore Kylie Gallagher (Upton, Mass.) tallied a game-high 19 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks for the Engineers.

    First-year Christina Antonakakis (Holmdel, N.J.) drained a three-pointer with 1:09 left to play, giving the MIT women’s basketball team a 72-69 victory over Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon. One of four players to reach-double digits in scoring, senior Kristen Ngan (Sudbury, Mass.) led the way for the Engineers with 14 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals. Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda paced the Saints with a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds in addition to contributing four assists and three steals.
