- The Lead: Late free throws by seniors Kara Holinski (Livonia, MIch.) and Dolly Yuan (San Jose, Calif.) thwarted a comeback attempt by host Framingham State University, helping the MIT women's basketball team defeat the Rams, 62-53, on Tuesday night. Sophomore Kylie Gallagher (Upton, Mass.) tallied a game-high 19 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT scored the first nine points of the game, including three straight layups by Gallagher, on its way to a 38-21 advantage at halftime.

- The Engineers' lead grew to 19 courtesy of a layup by senior Kristen Ngan (Sudbury, Mass.) just 12 seconds into the third quarter.

- Framingham State chipped away at the deficit, coming within seven (59-52) with 42 seconds remaining. Two free throws by Holinski with 21.7 seconds on the clock gave MIT some breathing room. However, the Rams went to the charity stripe five seconds later where they made the first of two attempts. Framingham State corralled the offensive rebound but the ensuing layup rolled out. Yuan was fouled when she grabbed the loose ball and then capped the scoring by draining a free throw with 10.9 ticks left.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Yuan tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals while Ngan posted eight points, five rebounds, and four assists. Holinski finished with eight points, a career and game-high five steals, four rebounds, and three assists.

- MIT shot 23-of-68 (33.8 percent) from the floor, making only three baskets from three-point range. Framingham State was 16-of-49 (32.7) on the night but was 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from behind the arc. The Engineers recorded advantages in rebounds (44-40), points off turnovers (20-6), second-chance points (13-8), and points in the paint (36-16).
