March 1, 2025 Cortland Wins SUNYAC Men's Basketball Title with Win at Top-Seeded New Paltz NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The Cortland men's basketball team won its eighth State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title and first since 2016 with a 61-52 win at top-seeded New Paltz.
February 25, 2025 Cortland Men Defeat Oneonta, 73-55, in SUNYAC Tournament First Round CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland men's basketball team, seeded third in the six-team SUNYAC tournament, advanced to the semifinals with a 73-55 first-round victory over sixth-seeded Oneonta at Corey Gymnasium.
February 4, 2025 Cortland moves into tie for first with ten 3's from Austin Isaiah Austin tied a school single-game record with 10 made 3-pointers and finished with 40 points as Cortland defeated visiting Fredonia, 90-66, in a SUNYAC men's basketball game.
May 30, 2023 Maurice Kearney Named Cortland Men's Basketball Head Coach Maurice Kearney has been named the men's basketball head coach at SUNY Cortland, according to Director of Athletics Mike Urtz. Kearney replaces Tom Spanbauer, who retired from the position this past spring after 28 years at the helm.
March 28, 2023 Long-time Cortland coach Spanbauer announces retirement Tom Spanbauer has announced his retirement after 28 years as head coach of the SUNY Cortland men's basketball program. He will continue to work at Cortland as the women's tennis head coach – a position he's held since 2006 – and as a physical education instructor. A national search will be conducted for the position later this spring.
March 3, 2023 Cortland's Austin Grunder Repeats as SUNYAC Player of the Year SUNY Cortland senior forward/guard Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) has been named the 2022-23 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year for the second straight year and freshman forward Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) has been chosen as the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year in a vote of the league’s coaches.
