  • Men’s Basketball Rallies in Second Half but Falls to St. Norbert in NCAA Tournament Opener

    LA CROSSE – The Carthage College men's basketball team faced St. Norbert in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Despite an early deficit, the Firebirds mounted a strong second-half comeback, cutting the lead to one, but the Green Knights held on for a 92-89 victory, bringing Carthage's 2024-25 season to a close.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Red Men, who had also lost nine of their last 10 games.

The Cardinals remain tied for second place in the league, while the Red Men have lost 10 of their last 11 games.

Carver Physical Education Center in Rock Island, Ill. The Vikings, who are eyeing their 15th league title, as well as the home court for the Feb. 26-27 CCIW Men’s Basketball Tournament, have won nine in a row. The Red Men have lost nine of their last 10 games.

For the second time in a month, the Carthage College men’s basketball team (8-12, 2-7 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) faces two top-10 teams this week. Both on the road. Carthage travels to Elmhurst, Ill., on Wednesday, Feb. 3 to play No. 9 Elmhurst College (17-3, 7-2 CCIW) in a 7 p.m. game at R.A. Faganel Hall. This coming Saturday, the Red Men travel to Rock Island, Ill., to take on No. 2 Augustana College (Ill., currently 19-1, 8-1 CCIW) in a 7 p.m. contest at the Roy J. Carver Physical Education Center.
