Playing for the first time as conference foes, DePauw travelled to Wabash and upset the Little Giants. On the women's side, both ranked South Region teams lost on the road on Wednesday night.

DePauw and Wabash are long time rivals but Wednesday night's game had more on the line than usual. The Tigers moved into the NCAC this year and trailed Wabash by two games in the conference standings coming into tonight. The last time the rivals met in a conference game, current Butler coach Brad Stevens was on the floor for DePauw.

DePauw upended the Little Giants 64-55 as Wabash shot 1-for-15 from three. The Tigers shot 7-for-14 from behind the arc. With the loss, Wabash drops into second place behind Wittenberg. That set of Tigers also won, beating Kenyon 71-63.

At the bottom of the Top 25, No. 24 WPI survived a scare from Trinity (Conn.). The Engineers held off the Bantams 66-65 in overtime. David Brown hit three free throws for WPI with 2.1 seconds left.

At the top of the Top 25, No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan beat Randolph for its 12th consecutive win, 76-62. No. 3 MIT cruised past Coast Guard 83-55 and tied a school record in the process for consecutive wins.

The final season for York (Pa.) coach Jeff Gamber has produced at least one memorable win, as the Spartans scored four points in the final second to get past Hood 63-61, dropping Hood to 2-4 in the CAC. It's Gamber's 483rd career win. Mary Washington took over sole possession of first place in the league with a 65-55 win against St. Mary's, snapping the Eagles' nine-game losing streak against the Seahawks. Transylvania seized first place in the HCAC with a 72-67 win at home over Hanover.

Andre Simon hit a 40-foot buzzer beater to lift Randolph-Macon past Eastern Mennonite, 74-71. Baruch watched a potential game winner rim out and then watched Lehman celebrate in the Lightning's 52-51 victory. Lehman is 4-0 in conference and 8-7 overall. TCNJ held Kean to 44 points but only put up 37 points itself in falling to 6-9. Kean was led by Ryan Duffy, who scored just nine points.

Women's action

Ferrum held visiting Greensboro to 22.9 percent shooting in the first half (8-for-35) and built a double-digit halftime lead. The Pride made one field goal over an eight minute stretch. The Panthers only had six field goals in the second half, but they scored 25 from the free throw line to seal the victory, 81-69. Kristen Keith had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Ferrum. Tonight's results create a three-way tie between these two and Christopher Newport, which defeated Averett 62-43.

Piedmont dropped its first game of the season, falling at LaGrange, 78-76. The Lions trailed by five with 33 seconds left and cut the lead to one but could not finish the rally. Katie Covington had 24 points and 10 rebounds for LaGrange (8-4).

BriAnna Lucas scored 21 and April Smith had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds as No. 6 William Paterson remained undefeated with a 59-54 win against Rutgers-Newark. In a battle of Preseason All-Americans, Eastern's Shante Jones outscored Misericordia's Christine Marks 16-9 and the Eagles also won the game, 58-57. Meghan Nowak led Eastern (11-2) with 30 points and 12 boards. Maine transfer Katelyn Vanderhoff started for the first time since coming back from injury and scored 11 in helping Messiah roll past Albright 80-36. The Falcons are unbeaten since Vanderhoff's return.

St. Thomas stayed hot with a 68-48 win over Carleton. It was the Tommies' 11th straight win and the Knights' tenth straight loss. Junior guard Allison Long scored a team-high 15 points to lead Thomas More to a 74-58 win over Waynesburg. The Saints moved into sole possession of first place in the PAC with the victory. Dubuque, which had been winless in the IIAC, surprised Wartburg, which had been undefeated in conference, 49-43.
