Virginia Wesleyan held off Roanoke to claim first place in the ODAC while St. Norbert extended its lead over Carroll in MWC to two games.

Virginia Wesleyan avenged an earlier loss to No. 20 Roanoke when Khory Moore hit a free throw with four seconds left to lift the Marlins to victory, 73-72. After trailing for much of the game, the Maroons fought back to tie the game at 72 with 27 seconds left. Virginia Wesleyan gave the ball to Moore who was fouled and made one of two free throws for the win.

Virginia Wesleyan takes a one-game lead on the Maroons and Lynchburg which took care of Eastern Mennonite 83-74.

No. 16 St. Norbert won for the 57th consecutive time against a Midwest Conference opponent and moved two games in front of Carroll in the conference standings, completing the season sweep of the Pioneers (14-3, 10-2 MWC) with a  74-72 road win. Carroll led by four with a minute and a half left but missed two 3-pointers, allowing St. Norbert to come back.

No. 14 Amherst doesn't have first place to itself in the NESCAC, but the team formerly known as the Lord Jeffs now have a victory over fellow leaders Trinity (Conn.). Amherst opened the game on a 12-1 run and stayed in front of the Bantams for an 89-82 win in Hartford. NESCAC teams only play each other once so Amherst will have the tie breaker on Trinity (Conn.). 

All four undefeated teams stayed that way. George Valle pumped in 28 points in 36 minutes for top-ranked Whitworth and the Pirates held off Lewis and Clark, 89-80. The Pioneers battled the Pirates to a 74-74 tie with 4:22 left before Whitworth put the game away with a 13-2 run.

Tim Reamer scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half as Benedictine pulled away from Lakeland to defeat the Muskies 87-62. Reamer posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards, while Adam Reynolds had 12 and 10 and Tahron Harvey had 16 points and six assists.

John Carroll remains one game ahead of Marietta and two ahead of Mount Union with six conference games to play after its 84-73 win vs. Ohio Northern. David Linane was the leading scorer for the Blue Streaks with 21 points and seven rebounds. "It was nice to get a good OAC win. It's a team effort when it comes down to the end and it was nice to get the W," Linane said. "When I'm feeling it, Coach gives me the go-ahead to shoot the ball, and that's what I was doing today. Luckily, it was going in."

Lancaster Bible had little trouble staying in the unbeaten column as well, as the No. 18 Chargers (17-0, 10-0 NEAC) defeated Gallaudet 91-73. In a game where each team played primarily six players, it was the Bryce Williams show for LBC as he connected on 12 of 23 shots from the floor and went 6-for-12 from 3-point range in the win. Gallaudet fell to 10-6, 7-3.

The points poured in for No. 7 Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday -- six players reached double figures and 13 were in the scoring column as the Battling Bishops set the school record for points in a game, flying past Hiram 123-95. The previous record was set against Hiram as well, in January 2006.

For the second time this season North Park narrowly missed upsetting a highly ranked CCIW foe. This time No. 2 Augustana edged the Vikings 95-92 in overtime. Both teams had a chance to win at the end of regulation from the foul line but missed potential game-winning shots. North Park's dynamic duo of Jordan Robinson and Juwan Henry scored 59 points while Augustana had seven players score double-digits.

Beyond the Top 25: 58 is not enough

Jordan Rezendes recorded the highest single-game scoring total in Division III this season and set the Mass-Dartmouth school record with 58 points, but even all of that wasn't enough as Plymouth State defeated the Corsairs 88-83. Rezendes' huge day included 18-for-26 shooting, 5-for-10 from 3-point range and a 17-for-18 performance from the foul line. Plymouth State (13-7, 4-5 Little East) balanced that out with 31 from Uche Nwokeji and 22 from Brian Boulay, while nobody else scored in double figures for Mass-Dartmouth (11-8, 4-5).

Matthew Lee scored 50 points for Medgar Evers and the Cougars knocked off Baruch 98-83. Lee shot 17-for-22 from the field, including 5-for-6 from three, and converted 11 of his 12 free throw attempts.

Kevin Alvarez's two free throws with 1.1 seconds left gave Coast Guard a 78-77 win over Wheaton, capping the Bears' rally from a 20-point second-half deficit. Alvarez's 39 points tied Coast Guard's single-game school record. He had 26 of his points in the secnod half. The win keeps the Bears (9-9, 3-5) in position for the last playoff spot in the five-team NEWMAC tournament.

Delaware Valley picked up a victory in similar style at home against Eastern. The Aggies erased a 17-point halftime deficit, lost a four-point lead in the game's final minute and then won 72-70 on a Barry Brockington three with 0.3 seconds left. Delaware Valley's victory was delayed when the students stormed the floor and gave the Eagles a technical free throw and the ball. But Brockington intercepted the long inbounds pass to seal the victory.

Lehman's win over CCNY wasn't quite as dramatic but it was just as effective. The Lightning rallied from a nine-point deficit with three minutes left to beat the Beavers 85-80 and pulled into a tie for first in the CUNYAC. Brooklyn lost its one-game lead on Lehman three days after beating the Lightning. Staten Island defeated the Bulldogs 81-80 as Will Fonseca scored 23 points for Dolphins and Frank Schettino added 18, including the 1,000th of his career.

Demetrius Slade beat the buzzer at Johnson State and the Badgers beat Maine-Farmington 66-64. Asim Kahn scored 25 points for Johnson State. While the calendar has turned to February yet, Southern Vermont wrapped up its NECC playoff spot with an 83-56 win over Lesley. The Mountaineers are 16-3, 10-0 in conference and have a three-game lead on Becker and Elms.

It has been a rough season for Rhode Island College so far, but the Anchormen should feel a little better after beating Little East leader Eastern Connecticut, 58-56. Chris Green notched 28 points for Rhode Island College (4-15, 3-6).
