February 8, 2023 MADNESS AT THE JMAC!! Battle's Buzzer Beater Helps NJCU Down #23 Rowan in Dramatic Fashion JERSEY CITY, N.J. — In one of the most unexpected turn of events in NCAA Division III men's college basketball this season, the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights took down the #23-ranked Rowan University Profs — previously unbeaten in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play — via an improbable sequence in the final seconds at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) on Wednesday night, Feb. 8. Trailing by four with just over five seconds remaining, junior forward Ryan Savoy (Lakewood, N.J./Lakewood) was open and drilled a corner three at 2.8 seconds. Then, junior guard Pharoh Allah (Rahway, N.J./St. Genevieve (Calif.)) got a tip on the inbounds to force the turnover before senior guard Jason Battle (Jersey City, N.J./Roselle Catholic) came up the ball and threw up a prayer shot from DEEP ... and drained the buzzer-beater for the 73-71 win. The play subsequently reached #1 on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays.
January 25, 2023 NJCU Hangs on in Second Half Thriller Over William Paterson to Earn Fourth NJAC Win JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men’s basketball team got back on track, Wednesday, Jan. 25, earning a crucial New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win over William Paterson University to remain tied for the #6-seed with Ramapo College. January 11, 2023 Strong Second Half Keys NJCU to Victory over Rutgers-Camden CAMDEN, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's basketball team earned a much-needed victory this evening, Jan. 11, on the road over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foe Rutgers-Camden. Thanks in part to a team-best 16 points and a game-high-tying nine rebounds from senior co-captain forward Kayton Darley (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen), the Gothic Knights bested the Scarlet Raptors, 61-53. After trailing by seven at the conclusion of the first half, NJCU used a big second half to come back for the eight-point win — Jersey City outscored Camden, 36-21, in the latter 20 minutes.
December 17, 2022 NJCU Uses Another Solid Team Effort for Sixth Victory of Season JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's basketball team picked up its sixth victory of the season on Saturday evening, Dec. 17, at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) on Coach Charlie Brown Court. The Gothic Knights, thanks in part to a game-high 13 points from senior co-captain forward Kayton Darley (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) — he led a balanced team offensive effort, with four players scoring in double figures — bested non-conference foe Farmingdale State College for the sixth straight time by a final score of 68-50.
