The craziest year in recent Division III men's basketball history put up an opening round of the NCAA Tournament to match, as Northwestern got its first NCAA Tournament win with a dagger at the buzzer vs. No. 3 St. Thomas, Defiance dominated the final 10 minutes to knock out the defending champ and No. 5 St. Norbert went down in 3 OT.

Lance Westberg (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) scored more than 20 points for the second straight game and the Eagles went 13-24 from the behind the three-point line to help NWC notch its 19th win of the season.
ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northwestern College (Minn.) men's basketball team used a better-than-50 percent mark from the field to defeat Northland College 81-52 to win the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship outright on Friday night. The victory, which improves the Eagles to an 18-6 overall record for the 2012-2013 season (11-2 UMAC), gives NWC the No. 1 seed in next week's conference tournament.
Northwestern (Minn.) scored the biggest upset of the season season so far on Friday night as the Eagles handed No. 9 Wheaton (Ill.) its first loss of the year, 67-62.
