Occidental snapped Pomona-Pitzer's 18-game winning streak, the Ohio Athletic Conference finished in a three-way tie and conference tournament play began in the NESCAC, NJAC and CUNYAC in Saturday's men's basketball action. In addition, Jack Davidson extended his record-setting streak of consecutive made free throws to 95 before he missed.

Pomona-Pitzer rallied from a 13-point second half deficit and took the lead on a Daniel Rosenbaum 3-pointer with 2:28 left in the game. The lead changed hands five times in a 90-second span, capped by an Austin Dewitz layup with 55 seconds to go, giving Occidental (21-4, 12-4) a one-point lead.

With 17 seconds to play and Pomona-Pitzer with the ball, Oxy's best on-ball defender Ryan Kaneshiro got switched on to Daniel Rosenbaum, who drove to his left, but Oxy walled up and forced Micah Elan to shoot a tough contested shot from the corner with Caleb Yellin-Flaherty flying at him. The shot missed and there was a fight for the ball in the paint, but neither team was able to secure it as time expired, sending Oxy celebrating all over the court with the victory.

The ninth-ranked Sagehens (22-2, 14-1) had won 18 games in a row since losing to Washington U. on Nov. 30.

Davidson, a sophomore guard at Wabash, broke the NCAA's all-time record for consecutive free throws made held by Paul Cluxton from Division II Northern Kentucky of 94 set in the 1996-1997 season. The NCAA Division I record is 85 held by Darnell Archey of Butler. Davidson already broke the NCAA Division III record of 84 held by Dirk Rhinehart from Kalamazoo set over the course of the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 seasons. Wabash defeated Oberlin 89-76.

Capital lost on Saturday, but still ended up with the top seed after the Ohio Athletic Conference ended up in a three-way tie on the final day of the conference schedule. The Crusaders fell 91-71 on Saturday afternoon to finish 19-6, 10-4 in the conference as their opponent, Mount Union, was 33-for-54 from the field and 12-for-26 from beyond the arc, ending up with the No. 2 seed. Jason Ellis scored 21 points off the bench, including making five of six from 3-point range, to lift Marietta past Heidelberg 83-66 and into the third seed.

Alfred won its 10th consecutive game, and won its 20th game for the first time in more than 30 years as the Saxons defeated St. John Fisher 104-82. Elliot Bowen was 10-for-15 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the line en route to a career-high 27 points to give Alfred (20-4, 13-2) a season sweep of the Cardinals (16-8, 11-4).

Washington College made the Centennial Conference tournament for the first time since 2012. Starting on senior day, Kevin McCormick scored nine points, his highest total of the season, to spark the Shoremen past Dickinson 96-79. The win, combined with a Muhlenberg loss to Gettysburg, gives Washington College the fourth seed and hosting rights for the conference's play-in game against Franklin & Marshall next Wednesday. Gettysburg finished the season just 6-19, 5-13 in the Centennial, but the Bullets swept the Mules (12-13, 9-9).

DeSales finished off its MAC Freedom slate with a 73-61 win vs. Delaware Valley. The teams will square off immediately again on Wednesday in the conference semifinals. The Bulldogs improved to 19-6, having won 16 of their past 18 games. Timmy Edwards shot 11-of-12 from the field in the win for a career-high 24 points.

Every year, a quality team gets bounced out of the NESCAC tournament in the quarterfinal round, and this year that honor went to 25th-ranked Middlebury, which fell to Tufts, 85-76. Middlebury was the top seed in the tournament. Eric Savage scored 19 and added 10 rebounds to lead the Jumbos (12-13). Middlebury (18-7) shot 4-for-23 from 3-point range. No. 19 Williams defeated Trinity (Conn.) 88-77 behind 20 points from Kyle Scadlock. Tenth-ranked Hamilton got past Colby, 93-88, avenging a conference loss. As the second seed, Hamilton will host the semifinals and final next weekend. No. 11 Amherst advanced as well, defeating Wesleyan 63-56.

Grinnell tied the school record for wins in a season as Vinny Curta scored 39 points and broke the NCAA Division III career record for free throw attempts in a 125-119 win vs. Lake Forest. Curta took 18 free throws Saturday, giving him 942. That broke the previous mark of 928 by Matt Hancock of Colby. The Pioneers improved to 19-5, 15-3 in the Midwest Conference.
