Howard Payne athletic director Hunter Sims announced that Yannick Denson will be the Yellow Jackets' new head women's basketball coach. Denson, who is a relative unknown to Division III basketball, replaces Meia Daniels-Netter who led Howard Payne to a national championship as a player in 2008 and went 80-52 in five seasons as HPU's head coach.

He fills the vacany created when Meia Daniels-Netter resigned in April.
"We are beyond blessed to have coach Yannick Denson join our athletics staff," said Sims in the school's press release. "He is a proven winner, he has been a part of multiple Division I conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances. I am excited to watch his leadership grow our successful women's basketball program and to see him reach our student-athletes spiritually."
Denson was an assistant coach for Larry Tidwell at Division I UT-Rio Grande Valley for one season and a student assistant for four seasons under Tidwell at Lamar. Between those college coaching stints Denson led Legacy Baptist Academy in Beaumont, Texas to the 2017 state championship in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) and the runners-up finish in 2016. Denson was also the head coach and coordinator for the Golden Triangle Elite AAU team in Beaumont.
Howard Payne finished 15-11, 11-6 in the ASC this past season.
