Howard Payne's athletic department today announced that Meia Netter has stepped down as head women's basketball coach after five seasons.
Inarguably the most decorated women's basketball player in Howard Payne's Division III basketball history, Netter, who played as Meia Daniels, was the 2008 D3hoops.com Player of the Year and finished her playing career with 2,118 points.
Netter spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets before taking over the head coaching job the following season. Howard Payne compiled an 80-53 mark in her five seasons as head coach, a .602 winning percentage. The team was 15-11 this past season.
"Coach Netter has been a part of the HPU community for many years and we wish her great success in her future endeavors," said athletic director Hunter Sims.
Netter graduated from Howard Payne in 2008 with a degree in political science and criminal justice. She completed a master's in organizational management from Wayne State (Neb.) in 2010, where she also served as a graduate assistant and later an assistant coach under former Yellow Jackets' mentor Chris Kielsmeier.
HPU will begin a search for a new head coach immediately.
