Freshman Erin Mog scored 24 points, including the final three, and had a key steal in the final seconds to help John Carroll survive Case Western Reserve 100-97 in quadruple overtime.
John Carroll improved to 4-0 for the first time in 20 years thanks in large part to Mog, whose layup in the waning seconds of the third overtime sent it to the extra extra session. Case fell to 3-3 despite Evy Iacono's 37 points.
No. 10 Messiah was outrebounded 45-28 but made up for it by turning the ball over just eight times and beating No. 7 Lebanon Valley 62-45 in the teams' MAC Commonwealth matchup. Taylor Miller led the Falcons with 20 points.
Denison continued its power packed early season schedule, taking No. 2 Mount Union to overtime before falling 72-69. Denison played Hope, the current No. 9 team, to open the season, and continues with No. 1 DePaw next. Preseason All-America selection Rosa Lamattina led all scorers with 27 points, including a jumper with three seconds left in regulation to tie the game. She added six assists and five steals.
Montclair State stayed unbeaten in impressive fashion as the Red Hawks cruised past defending champion William Paterson 62-41. Montclair used a 13-0 run in the first half to take the lead and a 15-0 run in the second half to put the game away.
The ODAC opened conference play with a battle between preseason favorites as Eastern Mennonite downed Guilford 57-44. The Royals held the Quakers to 29.0 percent shooting (18-for-62).
Fifth-ranked St. Thomas pushed its MIAC win streak to 25 and its home-court win streak to 17 with a 58-47 win against Macalester. No. 4 Calvin and No. 9 Hope opened conference play with lopsided wins. The Knights rolled over undermanned Albion 77-42 and the Flying Dutch dispatched Kalamazoo 87-37.
Matt Donohue broke Catholic's career mark for coaching victories and the Cardinals stayed undefeated with a 69-41 win over Salisbury. Jessica Morris won her first game as a coach when Defiance beat Alma 80-69.
