Sluggish Toms extend conference win streak

The No. 5-ranked Tommie women's basketball team (3-1 overall, 1-0 MIAC) pushed its conference win streak to 25 and its home-court win streak to 17 with Wednesday night's home win over the Macalester Scots (1-3, 0-1). It was the conference opener for both teams.

UST sophomore Anna Smith had 11 points and seven rebounds. Kelly Brandenburg added 10 points.

Kyanna Jones had 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Macalester.

The Tommies had a season-high 25 turnovers but shot 51 percent from the floor and outscored Macalester 17-9 at the foul line. UST closed the first half on a 19-9 run to lead 36-31 at the break, and opened the second half on a 9-2 run.

Tommie junior All-America Taylor Young played 17 minutes in the second half, her first action since the Nov. 16 season opener, but took just one shot and closed with two points,

St. Thomas plays Saturday at Hamline (1 p.m.).
