The #24 Bluffton University women’s basketball team capitalized on a great first half of basketball and held on for a 74-60 victory over rival Defiance College on Wednesday, Feb. 10 in the Sommer Center. As Bluffton's march toward a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship continues, the women notched their first-ever appearance in the D3hoops.com national Top 25 poll when it was unveiled on Monday afternoon. The Beavers have been receiving votes for the past few weeks, but consecutive home Saturday drubbings of Hanover and Franklin, two teams that had a combined mark of 75-11 against Bluffton, propelled the women to #21 in the nation.
The win puts the Beavers at 17-0 on the season and an unblemished 10-0 in HCAC play, while Franklin drops to 11-6 (7-3 in the HCAC). It marks the first time in Bluffton women's history that the Beavers have swept the Grizzlies following a come-from-behind 69-68 win at Franklin back on January 2!
