Career night for Wick leads Redlands Women's Basketball to big road win

THOUSDAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (5-5, 2-1) dominated California Lutheran University (CLU) in the first half as they got a big Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road win, 73-57.

The Bulldogs had their best offensive quarter of the season in the first, scoring 28 points giving them a 17-point lead.

Despite what would become a great quarter, the Regals held a four-point lead, 9-5, after three and a half minutes before an AJ Wick layup sparked a 23-2 run. Wick would finish the quarter with 12 points while Leila Hosn added five points and Colbi Zorich added six points of her own.

The run continued through the first two minutes of the second quarter as Carly Hicks made three free throws after drawing a foul on a three and a minute later she found Zorich for a layup and a 33-11 lead.

A CLU layup at the 2:55 mark got them within 20, 39-21, but Hosn and Alex Facelo made threes as Redlands finished the half with the final nine points and they took their largest lead of the game into the half, 48-21.

As strong of a finish as the Bulldogs had to end the first half, the Reglas started the third on a 9-2 run and they got to within 20, 50-30.

Facelo, though, slowed the CLU run with a three off a Hosn assist as she sparked a 14-6 run that gave them a new largest lead of 28, 64-36, with only 1:29 left to play in the third.

Redlands would not have the game in hand, however, as CLU finished the third on a 7-0 run and extended that to 18-1 as they got within 11, 65-54, with 6:01 still to play.

Over the final 5:37 the Bulldogs made big plays, scoring seven of the final 10 points, and holding the Regals to only two points over the final 3:45.

Wick had a career-high 26 points and added four key assists. Hosn had 19 points, her most since November 2023 against Bethesda University when she scored her career-high of 21.

As a team the Bulldogs shot 47.5 percent from the field, a season-high, 3.9 percent higher than their .436 versus Transylvania University.

Redlands will now have a few weeks off before they go to Las Vegas for the D3hoops.com Classic on December 28 and 30 against SUNY Canton and Saint Vincent College.
