WBB: #3/#3 Rhode Island College upends Panthers

 

PLYMOUTH, N.H. The Plymouth State University women's basketball team fell to the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen, 78-36, in Little East Conference (LEC) action at Foley Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Bri Wilcox (Londonderry, N.H.) led Plymouth State with 13 points, while sophomore Hailey Malozzi (Maynard, Mass.) added ten points for the Panthers in the losing effort. The Anchorwomen, who are ranked #3 in the D3hoops.com poll and #3 in the WBCA poll, remain undefeated on the season.

Plymouth State drops to 9-11 (5-7 LEC) on the season, while Rhode Island College improves to 22-0 (13-0 LEC).

How it Happened:

  • The Anchorwomen opened play on a 13-2 run with 7:03 on the clock in the first.
  • Plymouth State closed out the first quarter strong, running toe-to-toe with the national powerhouse, as the score ended 24-11 after one.
  • Twelve-straight points in the second quarter gave Rhode Island College a 40-15 lead just before halftime.
  • The Panthers came in hot to kick off the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 46-28 behind a 10-2 run with 6:21 on the clock.
  • Rhode Island College found its footing again, closing out the third quarter with a 61-34 lead.
  • The Panthers continued to push, but RIC proved too strong in the end.
