Sewanee Women’s Basketball Ends New Year’s Road Swing at BSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Sewanee women's basketball team dropped a 64-49 decision to the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Sunday afternoon inside Bill Battle Coliseum.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The contest started out slow for Sewanee, falling 6-1 at the first quarter media timeout.

-Additionally, the Tigers missed their first three shots from the field before Camryn Broussard made a fast-break layup following a Lakeisha Phillips block on the other end to trail 6-5 with about four minutes left in the period.

-After the layup by Broussard, BSC went on a 7-2 run the rest of the period to lead 13-7 after one quarter of play.

-In the second stanza, the hosts started to put the contest away with a 15-6 run to lead 28-13 before Sewanee burned a timeout at the 5:18 mark.

-Despite back-to-back layups by Ellie Treanton, the Panthers, thanks to an 8-of-14 mark from the field in the period, led 38-17 at the break. 

-The Tigers bounced back in the second half to cut a 26-point deficit down to 15 at the end of the game, outscoring the Panthers, 32-26.

-Eight of the nine Tigers who played in the contest scored.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ellie Treanton led the Tigers with 15 points and added five rebounds and three steals.

-Kinsley Logan posted a 10-point performance, including an 8-of-8 mark from the charity stripe.

BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Derienne Black posted 28 points and seven boards to lead the Panthers.

UP NEXT
Sewanee will return to the friendly confines of Juhan Gymnasium for the first time in 2020 with an SAA contest against Oglethorpe on Friday. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
